Chris has been writing about the process of developing Subversion since December 2006. Originally slated as Introversion's second game and due for release shortly after Uplink, Subversion has since exploded into an epic and highly experimental project, and is undoubtedly our most ambitious game to date.

Did they reveal any gameplay elements so far? I remember looking at this a while back, and the random content generator seems really nice and looking at the videos, we just might have something truly awesome here.

Dont think they have. All I have seen since I started following that game have been experimental videos of city and building generators.

I dont think they have even said what the game would be about but it sure is interesting.

Finally some lifesigns. And they didn't dissapoint. I loved all of their games so far and by the looks of it, this will be no different. Coupled with their random-generated cities and buildings, we seem to have another classic in the making.

I won't spoil it for myself, so it's strict no-news/no-vids for me from now on. Smile

Put on hold.

Subversion has not been cancelled, but I would certainly forget about it for now. We will be going back to that project eventually, but the first thing I plan to do is gut the thing from top to bottom of all the tech fluff that we forced in over the years. Without a core game it’s all a worthless distraction, and I will NEVER again spend so long making tech for a game without having a solid core game in place first. Subversion needs a total rethink from top to bottom, and some long standing sacred cows need slaughtering.

tl;dr the core game sucked (the demonstration looked exciting but the truth is it was heavily scripted) and they decided to abandon it to make another game (to be revealed soon).

Some day they'll return to it, when they know how to make something good with it. But now it's not that day.
