its a videogame, if you want a story go read a book
i dont buy that. a game doesnt have to have a really dense and intricate plot for me to enjoy it... it just has to have SOMETHING to accomplish.. it has to have something to add to the gameworld beyond fetch quests...
and being a game doesnt exempt it from having a story!
i found warhammer space marine to be interesting... the story wasnt deep, but it gave me a tangible goal to reach... even the last driver game had something i was interested in seeing resolved. deus ex had a story that gave me purpose in the gameworld... even dragon age 2(!!) gave me SOME semblance of a story.. ok so it was THREE of them, and none of them were very satisfying in the end, but the stories (raid some ruins in chapter 1, settle the grievance in chapter 2, restoring order/battling against the order or whoever it was, etc...) atleast gave me purpose to the quests i was doing... some slight reason to give a shit about what was happening in the game world...
fuck, we can all agree the core stories in fo3 and nv weren't all that deep, but atleast they formed an overarching reason to why you did anything, and helped add SOMETHING - some depth and reality - to the world...
im just waiting for some kind of purpose to kick in, in rage... some reason to give a shit about why i (as the character) should be doing anything...
i mean, beyond 'shooting dudes is fun, hurr hurr hurr'.

This engine keeps fucking confusing the shit out of me.
4096 - The textures look like shit and the game uses approx 370MB VRAM and 400 System RAM
8192 - The textures look decently and the game uses 499 VRAM and 700 System RAM, also textures streaming seems to be nearly gone.
Also same FPS in both cases, AAx4, that is all on HD4850

just did the mission near the start, where you have to use explosive to open the big barrier gate... know the one?
so the gate was open, and yeah i know im supposed to go back to the dude to finish the quest, but i tried driving through the now-open gate.
INVISIBLE WALLLL!!! seriously? invisible wall? come on, what the hell... i mean invisible walls are KINDA tolerable for out of bounds areas that you shouldnt normally be able to get to, but come on.. thats just rediculous. even more hilarious is that when i tried to drive through it, the car gets stuck... so i tried getting out, and the game CATAPULTED me through the air, INTO the new area that the barrier is blocking.... i got shoot at a few times while i flew through the air, then died when i hit the ground. what the fuck is this, id

ill have to upload the video i just took. i tried it again, and this time my car flew up into the air with me still in it, then got stuck in the air. tried it again, but made it THROUGH, turned around, tried to go back, and it got stuck... i exited the car, got thrown into a wall, turned around to try and get back into my car, only to see it get flipped up into the air, and explode on the side of the hill
There's a lot of that, doors only opening when you have the appropriate mission or have progressed through the story events, scripted deaths and invisible walls.
(Just try to leave the ark area without entering the car. )
In this day and age, it should be possible to limit the area with natural borders. I don't understand how developers still dare to use invisible walls. It's an ancient remnant of when the HW resourcers were so low that tricks had to be used to ceate a 'grand' world.
for those still struggling with ati/c2d & 0fps when the game starts, using the atioglxx.dll from 11.6 works for me, still poor performance at the moment but the first chance ive had to actually play the game for me (along with +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +seta com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF
i feel more and more compelled to uninstall the game before i finish it, especially now, when the new Silent Hill is out (im one of those ppl that never played SH5 so i still like the series). its too repetitive, i already have most of the weapons the game has to offer and i`m tired to play the same levels again and again. this time even Jani`s nipples can`t make me finish it (yupp, you can see them).
before playing Rage i played Fallout 3 for the 3rd time and before that - Borderlands (2nd playthrough) and frankly Rage doesn`t stand as tall as them even on its toes.
but borderlands isn't nowhere near the *pedalstool where borderlands and fallouts are. it's a shooter. a 15 hour, quality shooter from id.
i guess people who are dissapointed are those who wanted it to be like fallout and like borderlands. i never seen it advertised as such. i got what i expected with decent arcadey driving.
You are reading the wrong ppl. Campaign is solid, coop is extremely addictive and mp is fun. Give it a chance.
It didn't seem solid at all from what I played. The coop and mp parts of this game don't interest me at all. The guns feel good, but the gunfights don't, they seem pure crap. Add to that the amount of invisible walls and the game is pretty much broken for me.

Fightning the gearheads on nightmare is pretty challening.
It's not that it's not challenging enough, the gunfights just don't feel right. At this moment I just don't have any interest in starting the game and playing it. It may be better later on, but I simply don't care.

They use a variety of scripts and ID unfortunately still also use the spawning system for enemy encounters (It's pretty easy to notice, especially the wasteland where you drive for a set amount of time and then once you are in one of three designated areas a red blip appears as a enemy vehicle spawned - at times a mini quest where you destroy several bandit vehicles.) so it ends up feeling a bit stiff and repetitive or how to describe it best although the animations and AI are often set up in very clever ways but there's not much variety.
(And that silly disintegration effect again for looted bodies and NPC only equipment, I'd love to disable it and enable full gibbing instead if you'd want to remove the bodies, ha ha.)
(Pain and death animations are often re-used but differ depending on enemy model as some can't be dismembered whereas others can be shot or cut in different ways and yet others lose armor when hit - funny thing is that the armored mutant will not change in appearance but when hit in the head will drop a Authority helmet that disintegrates in about a second or so after appearing.)
(More specifically it's a bit like light, medium, heavy and boss type archetypes of enemies with light being able to be gibbed or have their head shot off whereas medium only see that wingstick in the body animation at best or can have a hand shot off but the head can't be damaged and the heavy variety has a big chaingun type weapon and body armor plus of course similar setups for the mutant species and then there's the unique boss type foes but there's not many of them at all.)

Nope it was pretty much half of a rushed game with graphics that are sub par , and they are subpar, if they come out with some DLC thats another 20 gig then that might be a full game.
