Great, so i just got a call from a buddy of mine saying he just installed King Kong on his computer, which i setup for him (W7 pro 64bit). Now this game is starforce protected and thus needs a restart after installation. Of course the machine WON'T restart anymore, just stops with an error message saying something about new hardware or software being added recently causing problems, blabla.

What worries me the most is the fact that not even safe mode works, just stops at the same error message.
So, any suggestions on how to fix this without a complete reinstall? Because i'm the idiot who has to fix it and my googlefu is failing me.

Couldn't you boot from the Win7 DVD and do a repair...?

You have to somehow run the starforce clean tool. Either somehow boot in safemode, or do a system restore from the win7 dvd, or repair the installation.

After you've fixed the PC, about the game :
Note that the RLD crack for the game also needs the drivers installed because it's not a clean crack but an internal loader. Maybe he can try to install the latest starforce drivers (newer than what the game has)

Not sure he can do a sys restore from the boot DVD, I think it's accessible only from the OS (normal boot or safe mode).
Though again, not sure as I've never used it outside of the OS and to be fair I've rarely used it at all; usually, if the shit hits the fan with Windows, I always go for clean format + install. Very Happy

Also, didn't Ubi put out patches for it's SF games, to remove it?

You need to get a linux boot CD (ubuntu works well), boot from it and delete two files from windows system folder. It happened to me in the past, but I don't remember now which files I deleted.
