I am only 3/4 white I guess but I don't sell drugs. Anyway that (para)phrase is from some kind of movie that I can't find back. A movie about life in the ghetto and drug dealers. I think it had Lawrence Fishburne in it. Does someone know the title?
Edit: Found it and I got it wrong. It was Samuel L. Jackson in Fresh (1994).
Why do people get into trouble with illegal drugs?
Is it because they use them?
Or, is it because they are illegal?
They get into trouble with the legal ones too. Like ativan, valium.
In a nutshell.
People get into trouble with them because they get addicted. When you have an addiction it rules your life, and that life goes steadily downhill until you have nothing left. No more friends to use, no family to support you, and no material wealth because you sold it all to pay for your increasing addiction costs. You become unemployable and turn to crime.
So all smokers are unemployable criminals with no friends or family? Zip has it. It totally depends on the drug and the person, and that persons circumstances.
Well here in the states it's plain and simple the government can't control the growth and use of it as they can everything else. Alcohol isn't' easy to make and tobacco can only grow in certain areas. Weed is easy as all hell to grow and can be made in any ole joe's basement, tax free. Studies have shown that the effects of weed use are no where near as harmful as cigg's and alcohol but again, those are under government regulations so what do they care?
The rest of them are due to their addictive properties. People get violent when they're in desperation of something and always leads to some sort of crime or another and in most cases are actually harmful and don't need them getting into the wrong hands.

If by trouble you mean addiction thats a completely complex issue worthy of its own thread and debate.
If by trouble you mean why do cops bust ppl for joints or small amounts of anything, I dunno.
Our society focus' on arresting ppl doing illicit drugs (drugs they dont need). What they should pour millions and millions into is rehab and prevention for kids.

I think it is because many people get very unproductive if they start using illegal drugs. Or downright criminal in some cases. Anyway low productivity will lead to a shitty society and that's in no one's interest. So I think that's the reason illicit drugs have been banned world wide for decades.
Strange thing is, most illegal drugs used to have excellent therapeutic uses at some point in time. My methylphenidate has been the de facto standard for attention deficit treatment in the past 70 years and still is, yet it has become a controlled substance since morons started to abuse it for non therapeutical uses.
So I guess it's the morons that are to blame and not the medication. Which is why I would like the government to simply fine "recreational" drug users. Seems like an easy and lucrative means for the government to lower the demand for illicit drugs, and hence lower the amount of drug related crimes.

Well ya, I wasn't thinking about smokers, so I agree with you on that. Smoking can affect your job performance tho if you are always running out for a smoke. If you gotta leave every hr for 10 mins to smoke. Or if you develop COPD from smoking you aren't exactly employable. People have lost custody of their kids when they can't provide a smoke free house when their kids has Asthma. Smoking is not a good example but can fit into the 'unmanageable life' of addiction upon occasion. Just being the devil's advocate.
