I think MagicSwap was just awesome for PS2

Dean has made it so you can now boot your PS3 backups from DISK. Obvious HDD is going to be the preferred choice, due to speed and ease of use, but at least now you can burn your backups to DVD (if they're small enough) or even BD-RE and they work just fine =) Personally I'm still waiting for diskless PS1 (and, of course, for PS2 backups) but this is pretty awesome work by Dean <3

It can read them fine =) I've seen no reports of PS2-DL titles not working.. and a fair percentage of movie DVDs are dual-layer as well - and the same; no reports of non-working. As for DVD-DL writables? You could always do the old PS2 method of setting booktype to DVD-ROM ^_^

that good authority hypothetically has NPDRM type 1 & 2 decrypted. But that's hypothetical, for sure I have no clue about all this.

NPDRM type 1 is paid content that is checked online every time you boot the game.
NPDRM type 2 is paid content, but can be played offline.
NPDRM type 3 is free content, and doesn't need to be decrypted to boot fine. But even though it's free content, it can seek for unlock key files, and see if you bought the unlock key for this game (the unlock key is obviously a file encrypted with NPDRM type 2)

So what up with this JFW DH CFW's?
Do I understand it well that it will make it possible to play 3.56+ games, but only with their original disk?
So we can keep our CFW and still play new games we buy?

Expect lashings of mediocrity with a pinch of false hope.

Pretty much what Reg said. Expect more PSN titles, but less Retail.
