I'm about to preorder, but I'm looking for the best deal. I know amazon, origin and best buy all have their own little preorder bonus guns and maps and what not. But I also found links to websites that provide keys for battlefield 3, but I'm not 100% sure how legit they are. This site seems ok. http://www.intkeys.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=75 . Has anybody every tried any of these websites keys work are legit in any way because to get ahold of the game for half the price or even less. Any help would be appreciated.

I always buy my keys at sites like these, but i prefer cheaper ones Wink

Happend to me with MW2 that the key got banned, but that was the only case, and i got another key from the reseller. (The key wasnt illegal, but they restricted the keys to their countrys.)

Yep, PB + admins worked pretty well in BC2.

sure its not the best, but this one is not that cpu demanding, gpu is much much more important!

Nope Pfeiffchen.

I have a quad core AMD Athlon II X4 with 4x3.0 GHz, 6GB DDR1333 RAM and a Radeon 6950. While I can play on Operation Metro with everything on Ultra details (min FPS 45), I have to set all CPU demanding features on Caspian Border to low, so that I stay above 30 min FPS. All 4 cores are constantly at 95-100% load while my GPU is at 40-70% load and my GPU Fan is at 52%...

This game is VERY CPU and GPU demanding.

Bullshit....both BC2 and BF3 are heavily multi-threaded games. I couldn't play BC2 in multi without upgrading to a QuadCore.

Not really. In a game like this which actually uses all the cores you might see half the framerate on a dual core on the same gpu as compared to a quad core and the same gpu.

EX : crysis 2 did the same thing, basically i had a e8400 with a 580 and i was getting 30 fps average (40% gpu usage or less) on that MP map in the demo. Bought an i5 2500 and suddenly 60 fps constant (vsynced). Obviously depends on the game because even on that dual core i had some working my gpu to 99%.

CPU is a huge bottleneck Smile

Pumpy has the same GPU as me, but about half the FPS because he's got an older AMD quad core at a much lower clockspeed; apart from the fact that with AMD requires higher clockrates to match Intel's performance, I run 1.2 GHz higher than he does Razz

Poker Face

Even with my Q8300@3.3GHz the lowest I get in CP is 30fps, and even then it's only in a couple of places.
High settings but with MBlur off and 8xAF.

However I play it at 1440x900 while you probably play it at 1920x1080, so that's probably it.

What GFX toni, and yeah I'm playing on 1080p. Btw I was talking about min FPS Smile My average would be around 35-40fps, in short rage combat, let's say hilltop it's over 60.

But on Operation metro my average is ~ 50-70fps... I DON'T WANT TO UPGRADE MY CPU TOO Crying or Very sad

Hmm with my i5 750 OC'd to 3.4 ghz metro plays pretty shitty when going inside. Especially when zooming in with a scope (RDS is not affected) my fps gets raped (going from around 30-40 to 15...) in the 2nd part of metro. I think it has to do with the massive amounts of lightsource effects ? (playing on high).

CB on the other hand plays perfectly, no sudden frame drops but a nice and steady "smooth" feel (haven't tested how many fps). My rig consists of a 295GTX, 8GB DD3 1600, installed on SSD drive.

HD6850, and I was talking about min FPS too. Wink
I get those if I stand on the antenna balcony or if there are a couple of destroyed vehicles burning at the checkpoint, otherwise it hovers around 35-45 on the rest of the map.
Here are my settings:

Odd. i5-760 @ 4.2 + 6950 caps me at 60 in the Metro tunnels, easily. Outside it's the same as CB roughly, between 50 and 60 depending on which direction I'm looking in (first stage, second stage caps at 60 again, limited view distance there).

Then again, dual GPU card in your case; an old one at that which, contrary to popular belief, doesn't get much attention from NVIDIA anymore (if general SLI fixes affect it, that's great, but they don't spend time fixing stuff for it anymore).

Try overclocking that thing more, you can do 3.8 on the stock cooler quite easily; if you have an aftermarket cooler, shoot for 4+.

what are the main cpu demanding features?

can u be so kind an post ur settings for bf3, would like to compare them (is a radeon 6950 faster than a gtx460?)

and last question: what effect has vsync? it´s synchonising the frames or not? turning it off gives better fps or is that not always the case and not always the best thing to do?

thanks!!

6950 is 75% faster on average, but considering this is a shader bound game and AMD performs better in this + it actually uses over 1GB VRAM, it's more than likely close to twice as fast. Especially indoor I expect it will be close to that.

V-sync matches the FPS it renders to the FPS your monitor can display - for most monitors that's 60 these days (when displaying 60+ FPS on a 60 Hz monitor you can get tearing; broken images). However, the big problem with V-sync is that if you drop below 60 FPS depending on the V-sync implementation, it might drop down to rendering 30 FPS (because then it can display 1 frame every 2Hz, easier math for the retards). BF3 luckily has a proper V-sync implementation, only applying skipping at 60+ FPS like it should, so keeping it on doesn't matter Smile

@ moose: the beta is quite well optimised in fact. I'm sure they can squeeze out some more, but given how damn fine it looks it runs like a dream.

Who knows. It's an expansion pack, so maybe they'll bring us new factions, that are not currently present in BF3...

From my own testing in bf3 the phenom 2 x4 is excellent aslong as you make sure its running over 3.3ghz as soon as you go over that it seems to have almost no effect on your fps either in metro or cb (i do have a phenom with l3 cache the ones without it may suffer more)

My current system is a phenom x4 running at 3.9ghz right now with a 570 and 8gb ddr3 the 570 running at 800 core and 1950 mem i can play either map wih everything on max setting perfectly smooth even in a messy situation but taking the cpu down to 3.2ghz the fps gets down to 34 on cb in a big situation which doesnt feel as smooth.

yea, i can confirm that dual core cpu may effect the preformance:(

i run here old e6550 with 3gb ddr2 and gtx560 ti and inside metro i could get sometimes even 40 fps but mostely it is around 25-30 with low resolution and high settings but even with low settings the fps doesn't change much and outside the metro in the field, i am getting around 17-28 fps and this sucks:(

i could play , but it moved heavy and the cpu runing on 100%...now i have two options:

1.upgrade only cpu into quad core one (my motherboard supports 1333mhz)

2.buy new machine (mothereboard+core i5+ddr3)

now, option one will cost me half price of option two but it means to stay in the old thecnology and it will probably will lead me thru 2012 games, but i think that sooner or later i will have to buy new machine, so maybe bf3 is the cue to do so afte 4 years of using this machine..
