transcoding = vt_usecudatranscode 1 (2 for enabling it for everything.)
high / low texture cache = 4096 or 8192 texture sets. (See my previous posts on this.)

Transcoding helps out streaming by offloading from the CPU, sort-of like increasing vt_maxppf to a higher value but it's not related to that command. Smile

Same as before for me.
SKIDROW version + Patch, Catalyst preview v2:

-with Catalyst AI disabled=30-35fps, but with artifacts/texture pop-ins everywhere not matter what settings I choose;
-with Catalyst AI enabled=stuttering everywhere, unplayable.

Modified configs/tweaks make the situation slightly better but the super-annoying artifacts are still there:

Sad tnx for the info mate.. I will continue playing 360 version , but I want kb\mouse.. Sad

So, do you think Megatexturing is any good or do you reckon normal textures would have been better?

Hehe, same problem here. You say those new beta drivers don't help? Thx for info, I won't bother with installing them.

At a better resolution (Even higher, weird as it sounds.) it would probably be possible to keep everything fairly sharp but it would need a lot of work to get all those 20+ GB of texture data to stream efficiently (Even if the game was geared to PC first and foremost.) but other than that it has some neat advantages but it also feels a bit complicated and cumbersome. Razz
(But it makes most every area unique.)

I still find it really weird, how come that on my second pc with HD3870, i had 0 problems from day 1 :\

Shouldnt the HD4850/70 be better and thus cause no issues? Neutral

Heh that Tombstones minigame is a bit silly - play long enough and you're guaranteed to make money since it's so easy to at least get your initial bet back.

Any way to disable that 'achievements disabled' message btw.?

I had the same problem (with hd 4890), but I just found this:
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1239077-ati-4890-1gb-and-intel-c2d-help/
This finally fixed this stupid "checkerboard" bug and I have solid fps with catalyst AI on. The key could be +cvaradd jobs_numThreads value being -1 instead of 0.

Not really, a typical level might use something like a 300mb megatexture in a format that the GPU cannot use, for it to be used it's being decompressed to a format that takes up 10x more space, so you would need to have 3GB VRAM to load the complete megatexture of a level and use no streaming at all.

That can't be done, so they stream 4k^2 or 8k^2 parts of the megatexture every time you move in the world.

I'm 9 hours in and i'm still in Wellsprings. It's a matter of how you play it...
I waited this game since they announced it @ QuakeCon 07 and it's tons of fun so i play it quite slowly and doing everything side missions, races, package delivery etc.

I know the textures are a little shite up close and personal but I'm slowly getting into this game. I've had no graphical issues, crashes, nothing and it runs butter smooth with everything maxed out (not that there is loads of options lol). I just want them to release a HD texture pack then this game will be ok. It's a shame really that it's "unfinished" but on the other hand it's good Carmack has released this patch quickly. Now if only ATI would release a good driver set for you guys having issues...

The size has nothing to do with the gameplay, but with the textures. The hi-res pack if it ever comes will prolly be around 75-100gb.

I finished (normal difficulty) it around 10:40 (hh:mm) and I've done some of the sidequests, but leaving the sidequests in Subway town alone (the 2nd and last town you get to). Sidequests are either rerun of the same areas (revisit ghost hideout, revisit dead city etc) and some are "small" places throught the wasteland but those sidequests are around 5 minutes long. You can stretch out the gameplayhours by racing and playing some minigames but it would just add around 1-2 hours to gameplay time.
And by the time you get to the final missions game will have a "rushed" feel. I've completed the final 2 mission in 10 minutes each (or so).

Game is not that short but if you expect 30 hours long game, You will be certanily dissapointed.
