I dont care about OMG TEXTURES OMG OMG SO LOW REZ. Well sometimes i could swear i saw some Doom 3 textures (Keyboards). The fact that this game have shitty story and ends(Cuts) itself right in middle of game... Dunno where but im sure someone from ID was saying that this game will have more than 30 hours of gameplay (7:30 says HI).

I would say it looks even better in real-time than on these screens. Ofc textures could be better but overall engine is quite good- minus technical problems Wink . It runs steady 60 fps with 8x AA and 16x AF with "hi-res" textures config on 5850 here. But it doesn't make the game any more interesting Laughing .

Thanks to custom config the game runs great on my GTS 450, i3 dual core 3.33GHZ and 4GB ram. Great visuals.

But the (lack of) story sucks.

Shot at 2160p scaled down to 1080p (for the math wizards among you: shot at double the resolution). These shots a *lot* sharper because of that.

Its not the best, it has some big flaws that could easy be fixed.
But i have to admit, its a little step forward (even if its babysteps, every little bit helps)

Neon is trolling our game Sad

The main details are focused on the characters/weapons and not as much on the environment, this game would have been so great with highly detailed textures on the environment .

I'm not saying the game doesn't have its moments, but to say it ALWAYS looks as crisp in those shots is an outright lie - please do prove me wrong by providing your own shots Sabin/H_S/whoever else. I've not seen a pure 1080p shot looking that crisp yet.

I've only just started playing, but there's plenty of little things that annoy me. Not having raw mouse input is failure #1 (I have to set my sensitivity to 0.1, reduce pitch/yaw to 0.01 and then still have to switch my mouse 1 DPI setting down - I don't have to do that in D3/Q4 so they fucked that one up). Invisible walls don't bother me - except when they're in a place which looks like you can easily make it (like a platform that's not even as high as your knee - at least make it look like you're not supposed to get there ffs).

The shooting feels good other than the mouse issue (which is just me being spoiled probably) - it's responsive and accurate. Whether the story and rest of the gameplay are good I won't judge yet, as I've only just started. I quite like the shooting part, it just annoys me that this is an id game/engine that took 7 years to develop (and yes it did take that long, they didn't sit still after Doom 3 and Q4/ET:QW they didn't develop). Tech 4 took less time and was a bigger improvement in graphical quality than this is (this barely is, ET:QW isn't far off this). Granted, this has more in the gameplay department than D3 did, but not that many years. What cost all that time then? Consoles did.

I think the biggest problem is that the engine isn't scaling properly, so even a midrange PCs raw power isn't used properly. The engine is CPU heavy it seems, but it barely stresses my HD5850 and 4gigs of RAM. I'm still under the impression this is a really shitty port.

Like in every poor Xbox port.

Agreed, the coolers on my GTX 560 usually scream in games like "Dead Island' but not in RAGE.

Just to clarify further:
I'm not debating that textures can look like that. Nor am I debating that the details in those shots can't be there.

My point is that those shots are super sampled. They have extra natural anti aliasing applied, a natural sharpen effect - all because they were rendered at double the resolution and then scaled down.

Here's an example of what Supersampling can do to a game, on the gloriously underpowered Source engine:
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w179/random1301/Anti-Aliasing/Fence/no_AA.jpg
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w179/random1301/Anti-Aliasing/Fence/super_4x4.jpg

I'm sorry, but my point still stands Smile
You can get the same visual details and textures, but not that ridiculous crispness you get from supersampling an image (which in this case obviously is only 2x2 for the record).

You're acting like those shots are doctored, in order to play up this fucking bullshit about the game being ugly, and they quite simply are not.

Like in every poor Xbox port.

ID (Carmack) is supposed to be some engine god, so I expect more from ID than from some third rate porting studio.

That's not exactly the point. I have seen on several forums people posting those screens, without mentioning what was done to get them. So it depicts a skewed view of ingame graphics.

Well as for me....once i applied the patch, whenever I use the binoculars or zoom in to shoot, it stays in this weird zoomed in way and I cant get it back to normal mode unless I reload and sometimes it even loads zoomed in.... regret patching it!

The screenshot command took those screens at max resolution or how he specified that (2000+ pixels or what it apparently was.) that is then downsized and likely here via a super-sampling method which leads to most aliasing being removed and it increases sharpness.

If Rage supports it I've actually been considering testing this in-game directly say like with how Crysis works or well SSAA in general. Smile

Anyway got the files unpacked via the Xentax forums, a estimate there was that the texture "page files" for the wasteland numbered at 120.000x120.000 pixels at one million pages total so that 8192 command is still a bit away from max clarity.
(No don't set those four commands higher than 16328 - ideally 8192 - or what it was, even then there's a chance of crashes and corruption due to the insane amount of texture data you force the GPU and game to handle.)

Not my point. The shots are not doctored in the sense that they were retouched by Photoshop, never said that. I also never said the game looks shit, now did I?

My point is that those shots are not 1:1 representative of how your game will look. It'll be close, but these shots are a lot sharper than the actual game due to the supersampling. You'd be surprised how much different Doom 1 would look if you were to super sample it at 16x16.
