OMIGOD!! The team behind NullDC finally fixed THE nastiest bug that plagued one of my favourite games; Record of lodoss War. To get full speed out of the game, you used to have to run with dynarec enabled - but doing so caused opcode failures and a game lock during any kind of combat. It was unavoidable and the only way to play was either at half-speed with dynarec disabled... or playing it on Makaron, which is a more accurate emulator but requires some bullshit specific BIOS dumps (99.99% of the DC BIOS files online are overdumps and won't work in Makaron) and they routinely corrupt themselves too.
Egh.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! <3 NullDC 1.0.4-r136 <3

Yes, it's the same -- requires the same BIOS set as EX is just a shell for MAKARON itself. Try using an off-the-net BIOS pack and launching a CDI game; you'll get trapped in the BIOS loop. GDI works fine but I don't have GDI rips for "all" my games due to them being 1.2GB each and would pretty much cost me a 250-300GB rather than 100GB.

To clarify for those having the black screen:
After you confirm the date twice on the first startup, you need to go into the settings again and confirm it again.
Then, quit the emulator and restart. The game will boot right up.
|
That's horseshit. It has NEVER worked for me, not ever.

Thanks though, I'll check it out just in case. I like EX's GUI and, like I said, Makaron itself is a far more accurate emulator than Null -- so games with strange opcodes, like Record and Skies of Arcadia, have more success on Makaron.
~edit~
Oh SHIT!! Dude, seriously? MakaronEX comes WITH the proper BIOS files (tut tut tut EmuCR, that's naughty ) and it has an option that automatically sets the flash time for you. I just tried my Jet Set Radio CDI and it worked fine Hell, MakaronEX has a ton of niceties that weren't part of Makaron, including internal resolution increases (DC titles were, at best, 640x480, so playing them at 1680x1050 is godly!) and even AA! Weeeee!
Thank you apcarr, thank you!
~edit~
Strangely enough, despite not having AA (though I'm sure FXAA could be added*) NullDC seems BETTER than Makaron these days. 1.0.4-136 has more accurate visuals in games like Shenmue and Jet Set Radio, compared to Makaron. Awesome.
*Yes, yes it can. injectfxaa_by_some_dude_10 worked just fine and looks incredible too! Oh man, I loved the Dreamcast.

Except Shenmue, did any good games come out for the poor DC ? (Awesome hardware, but Sega doomed it)

Serious?
DC had an amazing line up of games, it was the fact that PS2 had a dvd-rom drive that doomed it. Some of the best games I can remember where on dreamcast
Off the top of my head...
Shenmue
Jet Set Radio
Sega Rally 2
Sonic Adventure
Legacy of Kane
Phantasy Star Online
Resi Evil: Code Veronica
Tony Hawks 2
Soul Caliber
Crazy Taxi
Virtua Tennis 2
So many classic titles.

I tried GOW2 with my Athlon II x3(Unlocked 4th core) running @3.52 GHZ and HD3850. But I get the same amount of FPS as I get with my old Atlhon 64 x2 4400+.
WTH? And this plugins and that kind of shit are so confusing.

@ TheKork
Interesting list, thanks. Still, way too few classics+exclusives compared to other consoles.

For a console which only had a 3 year lifespan it delivered admirably.
I'm guessing from your question in your last post that you never had a dreamcast? (i may be wrong)
If you compare how many games where made to how many were great games I don't think any other console would beat it, of course it comes down to personal opinion what makes a great game at the end of the day.

After a lot more testing today, it does seem like NullDC is by far the winner these days. Makaron used to be more accurate, but I dunno... Deunan doesn't really seem to care about DC any more, he spends all his time concentrating on the Naomi Arcade side of things, to the extreme detriment of Makaron DC. A lot of games I've tested either exhibited serious visual flaws, broken audio, or - worse - gameplay instability. Skies of Arcadia crashes constantly when entering/exiting the menu system, whereas NullDC runs it flawlessly with no stability issues at all.

Now supports more than 2 cores, it can be enabled in the speedhack section |
Awesome. 10 - 45% speedup with CPU's that have 3+ cores. That's pretty neat. | Still can't run Xenosaga properly.
Next year, I guess.

Define "properly" please, bud. I'll grab it later and give it a test. So far I am VERY impressed with both the new SVNs and my new rig, as now I can play everything at full speed with no slowdown issues that aren't emulator-glitch related.

Super-quick question Sabin : is MGS3 Snake Eater fully playable without bugs/glitches or stuff like that?
I tried it with the old rig some months ago but the framerate was obviously pretty terrible and I had weird black squares-missing textures everywhere

Even with all the new hacks enabled/disabled I can't get past 40fps on that screen.
Guess I had higher expectations for that new plugin than I should.

It should work perfectly or almost perfect with the newest SVNs. |
Nice, I'll check it out in the next days along with Shadow of the Colossus (another game that I've always wanted to play).
