Tried the Preview v2 drivers and artifacts/texture issues are still there; also the performance is the same as before.

Aaaaaaaand the award for the most entertaining, yet disgustingly overpowered, weapon in an FPS goes toooooooooooooooooooo;
The Wingstick!!
Man, this weapon (especially the Advanced upgrade) is so much fun to use.. and also seriously overpowered. One-hit kill for the most part. Advanced model routinely kills up to 3 people at a time. Bounces off walls. Returns to your hand.
Awesome.

@ tonzito I noticed that hideous green hue to everything indoors as well. It's strange. Game is fucked up and theres no way they didn't find these issues when they were beta testing. I'd be pissed if I actually paid money for this bitch

I just finished RAGE and it was fantastic, loved pretty much every minute of the game and I count myself lucky to have not suffered any of the myriad technical issues that seem to plague the game for most people. The game looked incredible (for the most part, overlooking some random ugly low-quality/blurry textures) and it ran flawlessly with not a single hitch or issue whatsoever. The music and voice acting were really good and I positively adored the animations, which were fluid and varied. Level design was typical ID Software; fabulous... which is a shame because the game itself has the look and feel of an open-ended adventure, yet is plagued almost to death by linearity and invisible walls.
Sadly, I do have to agree with the reviewers/critics; I finished the game in 15hrs and 42mins.... and it really did just END. One second; blam blam blam, die mutie scum! and the next? <1min BIK movie and credits.
*doubletake*
Huh, but huh?
That was seriously lame. That was every bit as bad as those pathetic cliffhangers at the end of American TV series seasons. Real shame as it spoiled what I had considered to be thoroughly enjoyable shooter. Sigh... time to bring on the DLC, eh Carmack? Oh right, I forgot, you already planned for RAGE to get a sequel! Blegh. I'm growing tired of not having a complete story being told in one game. Oh well, the game really was awesome so well done Carmack, you suckered me into buying the sequel as well ..... in another five years, eh?

Yes, I believe both CPU cores were maxed. But like I said after disabling Catalyst A.I. the freezing stopped. Also for slow texture loading using +vt_maxPPF 16 on the game's shortcut target line. Now all would be fine apart from the artifacts on textures.

looks like there's a fix floating around for coop.
Spoiler: | | Code: | FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1.Download and copy the files to rage\mp folder (ex. X:\RAGE\rage\mp)
2.Start Steam (normal steam not smartsteam/green luma) and log in
3.Add the friend you wanna play with in your steam friends list (Steam > Friends > Add a friend)
4.Start the game using Rage Maultiplayer Launcher and select Multiplayer
5.Ingame navigate to Wasteland Legends > Private game and send and invite to your friend you wanna play with (you both have to be ingame of course)
6.If the Invite fails press Shift + Tab ingame > select and double click your friend > click the little down arrow near your friends name > and click Join Game (Check this image > http://s4.postimage.org/5jm5c10ph/Rage_2011_10_05_10_51_42_75.png)
7.After you're both in the game lobby start the game and play!
//This method was tested with the STEAM_UNLOCKED and SKIDROW versions, wont work with BLACKBOX (ripped MP) version!
Proof: (new pics)

You know, the more i think about John Carmack and his interviews the more i come to realize that he truly lacks bussines sense, and in a way any kind of PR skills.
Its funny how in his recent interviews, before rage shipped he did hint that console was main platform, but reasured fans that PC will retain its strenghts, and gave constant blowjobs to pc gamers as to how PC is sooooo much powerfull than consoles.
Deus EX HR wasnt a pc focused game, they even outsourced it to some 3d party dev,but that game was godly on pc,it had problems at launch, but if you compare that game to rage, you truly see what a louzy job this studio has made, and what complete disregard for the platform they have, its like having a fastfood restaurant with more white customers than black and you sell black people shit in their sandwiches because they are the minority.
This is probably the only studio that made me sad at how they turned out,and i seriously wish they would fuck off from the Pc market completely, just my OP

iD will never upgrade as a developer. They make games they want to play and hope that the consumer will want to play. Rage, right now as i'm playing it is a superb game. It has issues, but its an instant classic of a shooter. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't understand how people expected this to be a non iD game.
I'm loving it so far.

I love the game also, ive been hasty in past posts to call it crap but the more i play the more i love it,and it can look jaw dropping at times,my issue is how the studio is treating its fanbase.
Fine i can live without top of the line gfx,dx 11 and shit like that.
But the controlls are complete shit,no gfx options, and to add insult to injury a broken game.
Then he quickly throws the blame on AMD for his louzy QA job and basically takes a piss on any pc fan they had.

I find the controls tight. And gameplay is great!
Game isn't broken (shooting is spot on. Racing / driving is fun). Engine does have issues. If they manage to fix them all in the upcoming weeks then... it'll be a great game. a 10/10. it has the potential. if the graphical issues get solved.
iD did a swell job with the game.
Bathesda is what ruined it.
And Carmack has never been a good pr. He's a nerd/geek. He gets paid to create games, not talk about them. Same goes for musicians and artists and movie studios. If you're not specialized in PR, you can't sell your product. People listen to him cause he's got the skills and the assets and the mind. He doesn't have the money though. iD doesn't have the money.
Game could've been so much more and so much better if Bathesda wasn't at all involved.

So you would say the game isn't repetitive as hell? For me it's already totally annoying when I enter some, let's call it dungeon, and I already know that I have to come back there again later. Kinda cheap imho since it's just artificial sustained gametime.
Same goes with Dead Island. But I had the best gaming experience with it, thanks to 4 player co-op, nonetheless.
But Rage on the other hand... I think it could have been awesome if it was more open world (like the newer Fallout games or TES). With real exploration etc but in reality it's just linear as fuck if you think about it. Quite sad.
At least the Gunplay is good (though too easy. same goes for the racing).

I have no idea if this have already been posted but I read it on another forum:
| Quote: | Hey there folks, there are a lot of people I've seen complain on a number of forums including this one who haven't taken the time to check the forums. So, I'm going to list the ways to correct these issues. (Maybe a mod would be kind enough to pin it?)
1. The graphics constantly reloading/re-rendering.
A combination of the improper installation and Windows security causes the game to not actually create the folder needed to cache the graphics. To correct this (Vista/7) locate:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local and create a folder named "id software" and inside that a folder named "rage" as well. (So far it seems it's not case sensitive.)
You'll notice the very first time you start the game it'll fill with cache(in .bin) files.
2. In order to actually adjust the game you'll need to make a customized config file. Direct yourself to the steam install:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base
and inside that base folder you'll need to crate a file with a .cfg extension named rageConfig.cfg. Inside that file the very minimum you should put is:
seta com_videoRam "1024"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
Now, IF your game locks up or crashes you'll want to change the last part to:
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "4096"
However, for the best experience I would suggest using the following:
| Code: | seta com_videoRam "1024"
seta image_anisotropy "16" //Using the highest setting here but you can set as 2, 4 or 8.
seta image_usecompression 0 // Leave this.
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR" //Filtering for light maps.
seta image_preload "1" //Use preload images when ever possible.
seta image_lodbias "0" //LoD settings.
seta image_ignoreHighQuality "0" //Sets up for using HQ gfx.
seta image_useCache "1" //Enabled Cache to allow the textures to load properly without popping.
seta image_cacheMegs "100" //Cache size in Megabytes.
seta image_cacheMinK "200" //Cache minimum size in kilobytes.
seta r_useHighQualityPostProcess "0" //Fore High Quality post proccessing.
seta r_shadowsHighQuality "1" //Fore High Quality shadows.
seta r_displayRefresh "0" //Leave this so the engine doesn't refresh every frame.
seta r_renderer "best" //Highest rendering options.
seta r_multiSamples "32" //Max Multi-sampling; if your game has bad FPS turn this down to say 8 or 0.
seta r_useHBAO "1"
seta r_useRenderThread "1" //Disable/enable threaded rendering.
seta r_visDistMult "1"
seta r_useMotionBlur "0" //I don't like the blur.
seta r_skipBump "0"
seta r_skipSpecular "0"
seta r_skipNewAmbient "0"
seta r_shadows "1"
seta r_cgFragmentProfile "best"
seta r_cgVertexProfile "best"
seta vt_lodBias "-1" //LoD settings
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
seta m_smooth "1"
seta pm_nobob "1" |
The above is the complete version of my exact config file.
As I said many people will need to change that last cache variable to seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192" to allocate less memory usage, which still works perfectly anyway. I hope this helps anyone out who's having problems with the game or is just annoyed at the rendering/texture popping issue. |

Sadly this game is a disappointment. It looks like it's from 2002, it plays like any pseudo-open world racing shooter combined with a town-hub delivering generic quests. It looks ugly as hell. Remember, we're years in the future from Crysis 1. ID used to release games that drove people to buy next-gen hardware, it was called the iD-effect. This one isn't even close to any of it's predecessors. Still, I'll play it since I haven't got much else to play until Skyrim.
