"r_swapinterval 1" works fine until you alt+tab, then you have to enter it again in the console.

i have a xtreme gamer and i have no sound issues with this game.

Either way, drivers fault or not, to me this really shows that they did very little (or none at all) Q&A on the PC.
Or they did and really don't give a fuck about the PC version, which is probably the case.

well i don`t know.. i`ve read the problems most people have with the game and it sucks, but i support the idea that a new graphics driver would solve some problems. the ONLY problem i have with the game is the one where textures load 1 sec after i turn around. besides that the game looks and runs perfectly. yet again i`m with GTX 560 1 GB on a 2core 64 bit win 7 with 4 GB RAM.
and kudos for the enemies! i love the style bandits dodge your bullets and YEEEEEEEEY --- the headshot is a headshot once again! just love the stopping power a bullet in the left eye has! or the way you can see the top of the bandits head when he is hiding behind a crate ... then the red cloud and then the lifeless hand on the left of the crate... nice.
but still, for me this is Borderlands through the eyes of Bethseda. which is NOT a bad thing.

No QA was done. Even if it was driver issues on NVIDIA/AMD's side (as far as the graphics go anyway), the game has been gold for so long that both of them would've fixed that by now had Bethesda/id bothered to do some QA and report their findings to NVIDIA/AMD.
I wish everyone looking forward to Skyrim a lot of fun, considering how shit Gamebryo is and how shit Oblivion was at release that should be quite amusing. I have very little interest in that one anyway (not a fan of Oblivion at all) so I'm not bothered, but good luck to you all

Then no QA was done on Deus Ex: Human Revolution either. See the widespread stuttering problem that they didn't see at all, during the production.

Not enough QA was done on DX:HR - I was lucky enough to have 0 issues. That was a game issue, not a driver issue. Difference is that they acknowledged it. And fixed it.
Are you really that naive though consolitis? Do you truly, honestly believe that this game got the attention on the PC it needed? I've already pointed out tons of technicalities which simply can not be caused by drivers and are just obvious results of them not testing and developing it properly.
I'm sure NVIDIA and AMD will find fixes for SOME of the fuckups, but the texture pop-in is as much a game issue as it is in the drivers (although the driver issue is caused by them accessing stuff that isn't there). Like I said, they're hardly using the resources available; because of their failure to detect VRAM CPU usage is also much higher than it should be.

And yeah, not enough Q&A was made on that one too but instead of blaming it onthe drivers EM sort most of the problems themselves, and in a timely manner too.
Difference between the two games is that DX: HR's PC version was obviously given some attention from EM, while with RAGE it really doesn't seem the case.
At least so far.

Oh and in case some of you didn't figure it out, there's a way to skip NPC's yappin. Just walk away until you can't her them and then go back to them, they skip the convo and you can get their mission.

consolitis wrote: | Maybe I am the lucky one in this case as I have 0 issues with Rage as well. No crashes, no black patches, no terrible performance, nothing. I DO have some minor stuttering in Deus Ex even today.
Their stuttering fix was released on September 16. The game came out on August 23. It took them 3 weeks, but that's ok since it didn't affect you - Rage has been released for 3 days only, but that's terrible |
No, it wasn't okay, it should've been quicker - never said it was okay either. The issues with this game are much more severe and wide spread (as in the number of different issues, not how many users have it) though.
Given how few people have no glitches at all, this can't be put on anyone but Bethesda/id. Anisotropy doesn't even work properly and I'm pretty sure it doesn't for you either. If it was purely the texture pop-in, then it wouldn't have been a big deal. That's a matter of fixing the config, NVIDIA and AMD will improve some of that as well. It's all the other shit that can't be pinpointed. Everything I see indicates that the engine is accessing parts of the memory it shouldn't be accessing. Turn some random USB device off -> game works. I'm sure that there's something I can unplug to fix my sound issue, but that's not the point. They are doing something wrong, plain and simple. There is no way in hell that a USB headset should cause a game to crash (not using a USB headset myself obviously), that can only happen if the game is messing around in the wrong parts of the RAM, causing access violations.
Edit: and to clarify, the *only* issue I have is that VOICES are fucked up. Environmental sounds and music is fine, it's just the fucking voices. My performance is fine (capped at 60), I have no blocky textures, no flickering, nothing.

Yes, nvidia has added an x64 profile for RAGE to their drivers months ago.

Legit Steam copy? It means because you're using "com_allowconsole" command, it disabled achievements.

Truth is I played 2 hours straight with no crashes. No problem there !
But is it normal that Dead Island looks so much better than these quakish old fashion graphics ?
even particles look awful
if you look carefully the dead bodies lying on the floor you can tell the difference in polygon count like some adventure games that you play a 3d character on a 2d background !
I was expecting more of ID and Bes.

I hope they will release x64 executable, I think it may run really good on my Vista Business x64 and ATI Athlon 64 3200+
Cause now it stutters and it doesn't stream the textures good even though I used some custom settings I found for MAX quality.

There are issues with AF, according to their technical papers. It's an engine limitation.
Quote: | They are doing something wrong, plain and simple. There is no way in hell that a USB headset should cause a game to crash (not using a USB headset myself obviously), that can only happen if the game is messing around in the wrong parts of the RAM, causing access violations. |
It's a widespread problem in "many, many, MANY" games:
Quote: | Alright I found the cause of the constant 4-5 second freezes, it wasn't graphics related it was my piece of shit Logitech G35. Now normally when running one of the (many, many, MANY) games that don't work properly with that dogshit headset you can switch the driver to a default USB driver and get it working at the cost of losing surround sound. Well Rage was freezing up even on the regular USB driver, I disabled the thing entirely and no more random freezes.
Thing is going in the bin and I'm getting a non USB headset tomorrow. What a headache that thing turned out to be. |
Did you know you couldn't install Portal 2 on FAT32 partitions for the first 3 weeks of its launch? http://store.steampowered.com/news/5432/
Amazing experience for those that bought the game and have a FAT32 drive; they had to wait 3 weeks to begin playing.
Rage's issues are way overblown. Its launch was rocky, but it's well within what can go wrong with PC gaming.
