This game has such awful textures. Never thought I'd see the day where an id Software game looked like shit.

Ok, I love it, when things work on first try! Very Happy

So the game works and all, didn't waste two hours of my time, at least. But ... texture pop in is frigging annoying! The game uses 38% of my 560 ti at peak ... but around 30% average. Neutral

You do have the latest beta drivers installed and GPU transcoding set to enabled right?

Still not a single FPS drop from 60, and the pop in is completely absent now that I am in corridor shooting-mode. Textures look as rough as I thought they would. Game looks interesting (collecting cards ^_^). That is all for now.

The card mini-game is quite fun actually.

There is no "max settings" - not as you know them anyway - and yes, a 4890 will play the game 60fps smooth because Derpmack decided that giving people the OPTION to adjust things paled in comparison to his "artistic" orgasm all over the faces of people buying his games.

*ahem*

Basically the game adjusts settings automatically and behind the scenes to ensure everyone gets 60fps.

That's not what Carmack said. This is what he said:

Quote:
When we started on the game six years ago, I looked at the consoles and said ‘These are as good as the PCs that we're on here’, and our development strategy was set up such that we basically developed live on all the platforms there. And now when we’re looking at PCs that have ten times the horsepower of the consoles... I’m making a large change in my direction, just saying ‘We should be focusing on building things efficiently on the PC and [then] deploying on to consoles.’ And we didn’t make that as crisp of a distinction as we should have.

I think the texture pop-in might be a bad crack issue and I'll rofl if it turns out to be true.

Did your game create
c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\id software\Rage\ ?

If it did not, create it manually, then run the game again. Two files appear:
FileCache000.bin (1GB in size)
FileCacheHeader.bin (cca 500k)

This serves as the cache for the megatexture cells, except nothing gets written to the file.
