I've still have my HD 5870 i'm not sure if getting a 560 or 570 is worth the upgrade, the card still performs well on most games.

For Battlefield 3 I would say yes. For other games I would recommend waiting for Kepler, comes Q1 2012.

Nah, just wait till December for the next ones of amd or next year for nvidia. Or get GTX570 when amd gets next gen out and nvidia drops prices to compeate.

(just to make it clear, GTX560 is overclocked GTX460 and GTX560Ti is a new card with last shader cluster open. GTX560 vanilla would be a downgrade for you)

Upgrade? Those two nV cards would be downgrades from a 5870. Waste of money.

560 would be, 570 would be slight upgrade. But I agree it's waste of money.

I wouldn't upgrade, I'd either wait for new cards or if you want to upgrade now, maybe get a second 5870? (It's still a great card tho, I'd probably wait.)

GTX 570 is actually 20% faster than HD 5870, and particularly so in BFBC2. But they're both right about the 560, not the same as the 560Ti.

I really understand DICE's view on this commander affair. It was indeed very cool to be the commander, felt like a mini-game inside the game and if you knew what you were doing you really were able to help your team. But it's also true that very few people actually got to try it, and it was very exclusive as only highest ranked people on the server had real chances of being selected as commander for that match.

I also agree with the mentioned annoyance of looking for a safe spot to lay down and start doing your job. Sometimes I found myself the whole match looking at the mini-map scanning for a f...ing enemy recon or a friend of mine in the opposite team who was sneaking to our base just to knife me.

If they really managed to bring the commander role down to the squad leaders, and add to that the new shiny voice communication system at various levels (team level + squad level), then I'm all for it.

Well it's not really that it be an uncappable area, as in Standard Conquest bases are uncappable (as opposed to Assault Conquest), it's more that the base would have to be unreachable for the opposing team. But DICE isn't friend of that (restricting access to certain areas to one of the teams), at least in Conquest, they've said that several times.

As for the fair democratic system for choosing the Commander, I don't know how that would work. I guess there must be a smart way to do that.

The Battlefield 3 beta is less than a week away, and graphics card maker Nvidia revealed to us that they plan to release brand new, custom drivers just in time for the Battlefield 3 beta. The new, Battlefield 3-specific GeForce drivers are set to arrive on September 26, a day ahead of the beta release. The drivers will make sure the game (beta) runs smooth with no driver incompatibilities, something which happened with the Bad Company 2 beta last year.

The new drivers will also make sure the beta can take full advantage of Nvidia hardware, with the ability to max out features such as Tesselation. The drivers will also bring better performance across the board on Nvidia GeForce graphics cards.

We dunno if AMD will follow suit with their own set of drivers optimized for Battlefield 3. The beta starts on September 27 for those with early access, and on September 29 for everyone else.

I never had any problems of getting knifed as commander in BF2142. Titan mode was kinda obvious as you could stain inside of Titan out of harms way, but Conquest mode was no different. Reason being that there actually was "no baseraping" as general rule AND you couldn't kill anyone across the map as there were no orange triangles hovering over your head / view distance was limited.

While fighting commander was allowed you just where in the battlefield like anyone else and then switch to commander view for UAV (ariel spotting) and some mortar action or supply crate. And return fighting after that. If/after fighting commander was disallowed just go hang in base maybe as engineer and repair incoming gunships or just look at your teammates spawning there driving away in a tank/jeep.

That is just a bad excuse for no commander, there's plenty of wookies "hiding" in every puch on BC2, they could easily command while they are at it. Same thing, you will die if you don't move. Just laziness on commanders part if he needs to stay on one spot.

Real problem is, no-one actually followed commanders orders. I scanned empty silos/flags and ordered squads to capture them, but they still went to die to the direction of incoming tank.. So only thing (a good) commander did was scan for enemy and drop supply crates to heal/ammo. Bad commanders just AFKd the whole round for a win (and double points).

Anyways, no commander is fine as (real playing, not those after k/d) recons are all mini commanders, as long as there is supply line of ammo to them for more motions and medics doing their job.

Just hope that you can't spawn to any squad mate, just squad commander, like it used to be. Really hate when you are killing someone and more and more people start spawning to that person Smile Is it like that, those who played alpha?

0day Nvidia drivers are totally normal thing, every time big titles comes Nv makes drivers, what's so special about this case? And only thing they can do is to make sure that CtD will not appear, they will not magicly increase FPS on your machines...

A:No dumb bombs in #BF3. Only smart ones.

Q:Today some of the people in the BF forum got access to the Battlelog Earlier today. and now they cant log in due to an error. Why?
A:Because Battlelog is accessible from the 27th.

Why no commander

Quote:
"I don't know how many people have tried to play as a Commander in Battlefield 2, but it's kind of a strange experience. Everyone agrees that that actual role of the Commander is very, very cool. But the problem is that only one person per team could play it, and it was always the highest ranking one.

"But even for the people that played as a Commander, the first thing they did was what? They ran off to a corner somewhere and lay down there and tried to hide so the Spec Ops guy wouldn't find them when he was going to blow up the installations.

"They basically spent the whole match lying on the ground on some obscure corner of the map, hoping not to get knifed in the back and trying to support people."

Troedsson concluded: "There was something very cool about the Commander role and there was also something a bit flawed, we have to say."

Eurogamer

Yeah this was asked by a member of the audience at the end of the eurogamer expo chat, ultimately the answer came down to 'it didn't fit in the game right so we gave the best bits to the squads themselves to use (UAV etc is still in).
