Well it's the first game since crysis that actually got deved while having PC as lead platform. Also the game that pushes the best graphics up to date and will probably keep that title for a while.

People just got used to half-assed multiplat games that ofcourse ran perfectly fine on mid-range hardware since they're supposed to run on consoles too...

Also Witcher II

Well you're right consolitis but only partially.

Witcher 2, while being quite impressive visually, doesn't really push the hardware that far for 2 reasons :

-ubersampling didn't really improve the visual quality, it was just an exagerated AA that killed the FPS, no new rendering technique or anything
-game was still in dx9, which should have been ditched in the favor of dx11 + tesselation, multithreading and whatnot (like bf3 does) which IMO didn't really push the hardware like it should have

Main PC : I7 12700, MSI Ventus RTX 4090 24gb, Alienware AW3423DW QD-OLED
Laptop : I5 4200H @ 3400mhz boost, GTX 850m 2gb Vram DDR3, 4gb RAM DDR3
Derpsole : Playstation 5 disc edition, Ninty Switcherino
TV+audio: LG CX 65" / Sonos ARC + SL ones + Sonos sub 3
VR Headset: Meta quest 2 airlinked

Only a week, that isn't so bad and it's a slap in the face to Xbox/Activision imo.

a £500 graphic card is going to perform pretty much similar to any other £500 graphic card regardless of the brand I think. Meaning, Devs will develop within current top end hardware constraints and everything will be scaled down thereafter.
If there is a hiccup it's usually only down to bugs in the software and drivers rather than the hardware.

The differences are only noticably apparant if your going to compare enthusiast cards to mainstream and budget ones. All priced accordingly with performance to match.

Besides, if someone is going to take this online to play (why wouldn't you? it's a bf game), chances are your going to lower many of the settings once the SP campaign is done with anyway.
(unless your one of those sort of nubs that just HAS to play with max settings on mp without having the adequate hardware to do so and just ends up lagging whole matches.. )

Take it from someone who in 1992 spent $400 on an 8 Meg Voodoo card and then $400 on a 16 meg Voodoo 2 a year later and so on for many years - it ain’t worth buying a top of the range card. Mid range cards don’t make you cry when you have to throw them in the bin 2 years down the track. The amount of money I have wasted upgrading PCs over the years is scary and sad….($300 for a 8 meg ram simm to get better performance out of Duke Nukem 3D I recall in 1995). I now have 6 Frankenstein pcs for my boy and his mates and I’m struggling to keep them up to date – I just hope BF3 is playable on minimum specs or he’ll have to be happy with BFBC2.

You bought a Voodoo 1 and 2 4 years before they came out? :O

Seriously though, a 500 pound card is never worth it. Either you get a card that's barely 10% faster than its smaller brother that costs 350 or less (sup, 580) or you get a dual GPU card which, while it will outperform anything else, will also suffer from typical SLI/CFX problems (sup, 6990/590). The 560/570's and 6950's/6970's is where it's at. That's where you find value for money.

(sorry for the remark above, but I miss 3DFX and my Voodoo 1 - best card I ever purchased. Founded in '94, first Voodoo came out in '96 - in '92 there were no videocards with 8 MB VRAM, don't think there even was one with 4 as my Mach64 was from '94 and that was top of the line with its 4 MB - until the 3D Pro version came out in '95 Smile)

Unless the hobby you are talking about is Battlefield 3 or BitCoin farming/SETI@HOME or w/e shit there's really no need to buy top-end GPUs.

I think you should or shouldn't worry about saving money based on other things in your life than whether you should buy the absolute top end graphics card or the second. /firstworldproblems

Well I'll have to see how this will perform on my rig... Really doubt that I'll be able to play this in 1080p with my 4850 :'(

Maybe I really need to take a closer look on getting a GTX 460/6870 :O

You'd be crazy not to just get a 560 or 570 at $200 and $250, respectively.

That's not a bad machine at all. Sure it isn't uber super fast, but it'll do just fine if you hook up a 560Ti on it for example Smile.

That's US price and after that rebate thingie which EU don't have. So it's $320 which is still less than here in Europe.

edit: Cheapest 570 I can find in my country is $405

Bulldozer is probably coming out October 12-13 (these are the rumoured dates for now). Why don't you go for a total system overhaul? Smile
