To be honest mate, I thought there WAS a thread. A lot of us had been talking about the game for a while... I guess that was in the general emulation thread >_<

Found it! For some bizarre reason, the thread title is actually about Dolphin. Go figure >_>

riight that's what happened... I was wondering where that thread went and why we were all of a sudden in a different xenoblade thread and no one noticed...

it was named xenoblade originally... the creator must have renamed it later on.

I used Dolphin in the past for GC games, but never did I play a Wii game with it. How exactly is that nunchuck thing emulated? Can I use my Xbox controller?

Thanks to Gvaz and Sabin for the links.

mouse can be used as wiimote
any controller or keyboard can be used as nunchuck or gamecube controller

For me the nunchuk becomes WSAD and lctrl and lshift for C/Z Very Happy Works quite nicely for the Wii's supposed FPS titles, heh. You can always use a real Wiimote as well, though that requires a bluetooth dongle for your PC.

This game works best on "classic" controller, I used Dualshock 3 connected to my PC. Although I do have the Wii at home, emulator visuals are much better looking and you don't need to use WiiMote, which is pain in the ass with this game.

You don't need to use the WiiMote on the real Wii either, that's not exactly an emulation boon. You are ABSOLUTELY right about it working better on the classic or pro controller though... the game really was made for those.

How exactly do I configure the Xbox gamepad to work with it? I've searched teh net, there are different profiles for every game (damn). I couldn't find any profiles or recommendations for this game though. Do I really need a different scheme for every game Sad

Naw, it's real easy mate. I can send you my GC and Wii .INI if you want? Preconfigured for 360 controller =)

http://www.multiupload.com/BF5AOS8CO7

Stick those INIs in your Sys\Config folder under Dolphin .. then just look at GCPad and WiiMote>Configure>Extension>Classic to see how the buttons are set up. You don't NEED to though, everything is just done already =)

Here's the Emulated Wiimote configs too, just in case. Setup quite nicely too, though this uses the mouse/keyb and not the controller. It's up to you if you want to use them, which is why I split Wiimote from Pad, but IMO the mouse is infinitely superior for Wiimote emulation than using the 360 pad.

Wiimote

1/2 = 1 + 2
-/+ = Q + E
A/B = Left/Right Click
Shake = Middle Mouse

Nunchuk

Move = WSAD
C = lshift
Z = lctrl

> How exactly do I configure the Xbox gamepad to work with it?

Go to WiiMote settings->configure
Choose extension->Classic on the right
Click configure under Classic
There you can set up classic controller mappings, map to appropriate buttons on your controller.

Nope the inis do nothing, buttons aren't configured under wiimote classic Sad I didn't have that config folder, so I created it. Might that be the problem?

I had found that folder under User, but putting the inis there does nothing. Do I have to load the inis someehere or should the app pick it up itself? I could configure the buttons manually, but I have no idea what's where since I never saw a wiimote classic. I'd like the buttons on my Xbox gamepad to correspond to teh original layout as much as possible.

edit: GCpad config seems to work, all buttons are configued. The Wii classic does not work though.

This is the direct layout for the Classic/Pro setting;

ZL/ZR = Left Trigger/Right Trigger
LTrigger/RTrigger = Left Bumper/Right Bumper
-/+ = Select/Start
D-Pad =
Left Stick/Right Stick =
A = B
B = A
X = Y
Y = X
Home = Left Thumb Button

Once you've set those (remember; Wiimote>Configure>Extension>Classic) simply type a name in the PROFILE box and hit SAVE. It will be set for that forever then.

Oh and to help when you're playing Xenoblade, since you're not used to the Wii Classic button layout;

http://wiki.dolphin-emulator.com/index.php?title=SX4P01#XBox_360_Button_Icons

My personal recommendation is V1 layout. Those are, imo, the prettiest and most usable icons.

What...the...shit. These guys have gone hardcore I see. Dolphin emulation is top notch. Bastards even have a wiki page, which is 110% percent helpfull. I thought the emulation was still at the "we're working on it, but don't expect anything" stage. I was so wrong.

Hell no, this emulator is simply jawdropping. Naturally there are some issues left over (good luck playing F-Zero with anything less than a 4Ghz i5/i7 Very Happy) but for the most part; almost everything you throw out can be played... with an enormous selection of titles, both GC and Wii, that are playable from start to finish. PCSX2 is good, no doubt about it, but even THOSE devs have stated how amazed they've been at Dolphin's progression.

I'm going to invest in a bluetooth dongle so I can use my legit Wiimote/ClassicPro controller as there are some games that require some of the advanced functionality, such as twist/push/pull and even the Motion Plus, which is INSANELY clunky to emulate.

Like constantly freezing in random places The Last Story...
Although Xenoblade also freezes from time to time.

My Xenoblade hasn't frozen "yet" - though the entire EMULATOR has a tendency to crash if I'm doing too much multitasking while games are paused Laughing Sad

How far are you?
Mine started freezing approx. in the middle of the story line, i.e. after some 30 hours on the save file ("clear" save is clocked on 69:50).

Just over 10hrs, but I find it hard to believe longer playtime "overall" would suddenly be cause for the game constantly freezing. A long playtime without any kind of break or pause, maybe, but just having a longer playtime on a save file? That seems remote Neutral

I suspect it's some sort of graphical effect that freezes it. Most of the freezes were in battle and others in cutscenes. It may be that you/your enemies don't get the specific talent/art that causes it.
Anyway it freezed pretty rarely, once per couple of hours.
