I'll be spending a few weeks in Australia soon, and I was thinking about getting an ebook reader to help make the international flight a little less boring, and to make packing a little easier since I won't need to take any real books.

I was wondering which one is the best? All I really want is a cheap reader with e-ink as from what I read, they are easiest too read. I was thinking of picking up a wi-fi kindle, but I was wondering if there might be a better choice out there?

I know the kindle doesn't have a memory card slot or anything, and only supports amazon kindle files, DRM free mobi files, txt and some PDFs. Are there file converters or something out there that will let me convert html/doc files to a format it natively supports? Is this device a good choice given my likelihood to acquire books via places other than the amazon store?
