Developer: Iron Wolf Studios - an indie studio

Plot Overview:
Quote:
1983. The height of the Cold War.

There have been growing intelligence reports that suggest a new threat is rising. Throughout the closing months of the year, there has been a startling, and well organised increase of terrorist attacks on key NATO countries, nothing like what has come before. In this climate of fear, the rumblings from across the Iron Curtain from the Warsaw pact members may not be total coincidence…

Experience the shadowy world of the Increment through SAS Sergeant John “Paddy” Casey and his 8 man team. Your decisions will prove vital in the coming days as the world slides towards a new conflict. How will you deal with the threat, and the difficult decisions that have to be made in the coming storm?

Key Features:
Quote:
In depth story:
Some of the operations featured in the game are based on real operations from past and present conflicts, adapted to the time period. The storyline is based upon some real events, and a chilling whatif scenario. In our opinion, a film's or book's plot is meant to drag the player in, and immerse them; games should be no different. The player is also able to choose how to deal with targets, in a similar way to how Deus Ex allows freedom of choice.

RPG Elements:
The game has been described as being a cross over between an FPS and RPG with the features we're wanting to implement. The player's actions effect how the story develops, how their teammates deal with them, and what skills they develop - We are also implementing a skilltree system, reflecting the way specialisation with certain equipment occurs, along with giving certain bonuses to the player which complement their playstyle.

Firearms Combat & Weapons Advantages/Disadvantages:
One of the key things that we want to get is hardhitting, realistic combat. All weapons have their advantages, and disadvantages to other weapons - some are lighter but aren't as hardhitting, some may have more modification/improvement options, others may have greater range than others, but are slower firing.. the list goes on, which we'll cover in a news article at a later date.

Fluid Unarmed Combat:
This is perhaps one of the most important features that is generally missing in many titles featuring modern conflict, the ability for the player to use close combat as a plausible option - and with that comes the realistic close combat mechanics we want to implement.

Customisation:
The ability to customise equipment, and the player themselves, is nothing new - but when used in conjunction with the players stats and abilities, this becomes incredibly important. Both the players equipment, skillset/weapon specialisations, and look can be developed and customised in game, so that the player's character is suited to their playstyle.

Engine: CryEngine 3
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: TBD

Media:

They look absolutely fantastic, so take your time and watch them all!

The above videos are made with CryEngine 2, because the CryEngine 3 SDK wasn't yet available. Now they have their hands on it they say "this is a vast improvement over our work on CryENGINE2 now that we've moved onto CryENGINE3".

There is also this concept document: http://www.gamefront.com/files/17046139/GDC.1.pdf that details many of their goals with this game, it's worth taking a look!

The game's release is likely pretty far away, as it's an indie team making it and they haven't implemented any gameplay yet, but the project is definitely worth tracking IMO.

It looks good. I'm more interested in how the FPS-RPG mix will turn out. And its date is TBD... Sad

I'm starting to wonder if consolitis is a shareholder in CryTek and whether or not he's purchased a commercial license to use CE3, which is why he's masturbating himself raw over it Very Happy

Hmm. I like the lighting in Unreal Engine. The light and shadow look more distinct.

It depends on how they're used. I find Mirror's Edge one of the best looking games ever, but I'm a huge hater of Unreal Engine 3 usually.

Yep, there have been some really appalling UE3 titles throughout the years. Laughing

Here's an example of MOAR BLOOM;

Honestly, I was going to point out all the different occurrences.. but I'd be basically doing a blow-by-blow recap of the entire trailer. I'm sorry consolitis, but no; that is NOT how light works.

0:10s - why are the signs so bright white that it would hurt your eyes in real life? Bloom.
0:18s/0:24s - Huh? The radiance of God himself is blasting out of those windows - and their light source doesn't even diminish when the LIGHTNING STRIKES.
0:35s - The boot of that Lada is brighter than Sirius.
1:21s - Heh.... so the speed limit sign is backlit with neons now?
1:45 - Shield your eyes, lads, it's the attack of the Supar Brite Morris 1100!

You get my point, consolitis? This is bloom. This is not good lighting and, in my eyes, just detracts from the overall presentation and it's a STAPLE of "next gen" gaming.

I edited it when I noticed the date the video was posted -- but nice to see how you don't even deny it Laughing CE2 is capable of considerably better than that weak-ass bloom, but this all derps understand; "bright" lighting = sooooo much bettar!!111

Bloom = never better. Not ever. But no doubt you'll claim you don't see it

Cedge #2, on a mission to prove everyone wrong in order to validate his tastes Laughing Whatever you say, consolitis, enjoy your bloom - just stop trying to force-feed us the bullshit that CE3 looks "better" than CE2, because it's getting boring now.

You mean just like you defending Blizzard for the sake of defending? Yeah, that's pretty tiring. I'm not hating for the sake of it, I was pointing out the instances of bloom that Consolitis seems to think shows "impressive lighting" -- I haven't once mentioned anything about the game Wink I tend not to get invested in homebrew "mods", especially not full games, as they almost never come out any way.

Oh and by the way? They were live scenes, not screenshots, moving or otherwise.
