I was going to play some PVP for the first time last night, but I was way out in a quest zone and never made it. I'm eager to check it out though. I did some space combat the other day and am a bit disappointed. You use the mouse to move and fire. I'm OK with it being on "rails", but it would be nice to be able to move and dodge with ESDF (or WASD if that's what you use) and then use the mouse to aim and fire. The spaceship you get around lvl 18 is very cool though and doesn't cost anything. Once I try some PVP, I'll post back here about it. If anyone has any more questions, just ask Smile

what is the difference between this crap and wow crap.
gameplay wise, and i dont mean like quest marker is @ instead of !.
i mean, there is something new, or a wow clone in another package. at least if is a clone, is a clone well done, or they will patch "now you can link items in chat" after 2 months. or other basically stuff that should be in from beginning.

It's very much like WoW. The combat, look, feel, movement, mechanics. Sadly, it's not very innovative at all with combat. I was hoping for something like Age of Conan, but it's not. Fortunately, the story lines are pretty good and you feel like you are working towards a goal, doing missions that are suited to your character and story line. You don't start off slaying rats for hours or orcs. You pretty much jump in and are right in the middle of the plot.

Right now, you can't link items in chat. You also can't see item stats for crafting. Both are quite annoying. I like how many items have "slots" and you can basically turn a green weapon to a purple one by changing out "mods". For instance, a light saber may have a Power Lens, Color Lends, Power Core and Hilt (something like this, forgot exactly) and each one can be overwritten by a new mod, destroying the one currently in the item.

You get a spaceship around lvl 18 that serves as your "home", so to speak. You use it to travel around the world map, similar to Mass Effect 2. You can join space combat missions, have access to your bank, a weapons upgrade station and all your companions hang out there. When you land, you go in to a space port and get to see your huge ass ship, in all its glory, sitting there in the hangar (each hangar is instanced).

Overall, it's not all that different from WoW. Honestly, I wish they had deviated more from WoW. It's a pretty fun game and time sink, but it's not very original. I think they did this to lure WoW players, because if you played WoW, you'll feel right at home pretty much instantly.

Hopefully there will be more content in the way of instances (flashpoints they are called in SWTOR) when the game comes out. There aren't that many right now. There is quite a lot of open world 2-4 man content though. I'm only lvl 19ish though, so I haven't gotten to 25 to get a speeder bike or other "mount", nor have I got to try out world PVP, so i can't tell you about PVP or higher lvl content.. yet.

Didn't seem much better than the new and some of the reworked WoW starting areas. Voiced quest givers give it an edge though and the quality of the voice acting + artistic direction were the only things that didn't disappoint me in the game. Everything else is average at best though.
And there's plenty of kill X quests, go to spot Y and click on interactive item, etc.

The main attraction for me is playing fully voice quests which would somewhat mirror the KoToR experience. Too bad I'm still not in the beta.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

I'll probably play this for a month once they sell it for half-price. I'm interested in it, just not enough to get too excited. I'd honestly prefer a big-ass KotoR 3.

Thats like saying you would prefer a Warcraft IV over WoW. They are not in the same genre.

It's not that much better than WoW starting areas, but the missions you take on are part of you "story" that starts at lvl 1 and ends around lvl 48-50 (or so I hear). The quests are nothing special though. Same old rehashed shit for the most part. It's better than WoW in these regards, but it's so much like WoW that it could be World of Star Wars. I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to get it. PVP will be the big factor I think and end game content. The space combat was kind of fun, but the lack of real control was kind of frustrating.

Did I say they were? I would prefer a blowjob over typing this post, too.

Except Blizzard didn't advertise WoW like being Warcraft IV online. And that's my main gripe, KOTOR seems to be yet another commercial stunt just like BG was for DA2. What made those games good got lost in the plague of overused MMO design.

SWTOR you mean. Smile This has been advertised as a huge MMO from day 1. Not as a slow, single-player centric RPG. I love the KOTOR games myself.

Yes I meant SWTOR. And this is what one of the Bioware designers said: "Kotor 3? Yes, it's called "The Old Republic" and it is KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8!"
And funny enough btw, SWTOR is pretty much a single player centric MMO. You even get a companion to chat with in case you have a lonely MMO experience.

I really hope this turd fails, but sadly, it won't. It will just further stagnate innovation in the MMO market. I will most definitely not be buying this, since I tried the beta ...

I'm about ready to cancel my pre-order of the CE version as well. The game is OK, but I swear, they didn't try to do anything innovative at all. This game is basically a WoW clone through and through. Now if you are not bored and tired of the WoW combat system, you might like it, but I want action oriented combat.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2 now. I didn't play the first one, and really had not much interest in the new one, but after watching vids and seeing more info, GW2 looks more my style. Fast paced action combat, dynamic gameplay, epic fights. Hell, the boss they were fighting at lvl 1 in the starting area reminded me of Ragnaros in WoW (not as complex, but HUGE). I also like how GW2 groups you up automatically with people and scales to make the dynamic events bigger and tougher as more people show up.

GW2 looks new and exciting, SWTOR seems too much like been there, done that.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/70175/star-wars-old-republic-getting-same-gender-romances-post-launch

The game will be updated post-launch with the ability to have same-sex romances.
(As expected perhaps? ha ha.)

EDIT: It is a interesting move by Bioware to allow this though it's starting to become something of their trademark, but after all it is up to the individual players how to develop their characters and possible romances with other players.
(Of course this will likely lead to conflicts and such in-game but that might support role-playing as well, what do I know.)
