Any idea on the suggested retail price / market availability?

I'd never buy something like that solely for movies (not yet, anyway), but if it supported 3D Vision it might be something to consider.

Edit: "Sony has November 11th listed as the release date with an estimated price of about 60,000 yen, or just under $800 US."

and yes knowing a price would be nice...

The big downside? These suckers cost $800. That's a pretty massive price tag. Yeah, Sony's got its cool back, but can anyone afford it?

yup the price ranged between $800 and $600 ... I mean if its $600 im getting it day one hahaha - look - combining 3D, Oled and VR headmount has been my dream for years ... there is no head tracking but hey, they mentioned that it looks like a 140 inch screen and you do not see the corners or anything, so u have a huge 3d picture in front of you - im sure it will work great with ps3 (which I never play games on, but whatever) ... I just keep thinking about being in my bed laying out, relaxing ... while my head is plugged into a 3d immersive world of a movie or a game ... If you are not into 3d technology this is probably not the product for you. ...

Check this out bxrdj:

As far as I can tell the specs are identical with Sony's (sans the headphones) - the Carl Zeiss glasses are just cheaper and with the head tracking.

Carl Zeiss is one of the top manufacturers when it comes to lenses and optics in general, but yeah otherwise Sony might have a better quality product overall. A comparative review between these two would be great, they'll both be released around the same time as well.

The engadget article is probably wrong about the resolution - afaik it is 720p like Sony's.

It's not like that - it supposedly creates an illusion of watching a big screen from afar. So of course bigger res. is better! Very Happy

thats like pushing your face right up to a crt @ 800x600 and saying WHO THE FUCK NEEDS A 40" 1080p TV!!!

that being said, for gaming atleast, 720p means youll atleast get a respectable framerate...

Found the exact details Sony mentioned: it's 'as if you were watching a 750-inch screen viewed from 20m away'.

REALLY have to try and demo this somewhere - because if it works as good as they claim, I'll just ditch my plans for getting a projector and get one of these babies instead.
