Shocked

I agree. How is Nintendo going to compete on multi-platform games from companies like EA if their system isn't nearly as powerful as the Xbox360 or PS3? It seems like the DS vs. PSP battle all over again, but with Nintendo competing against 2 far more powerful consoles. Their controller sounds interesting, but how many game developers are going to want to design games for it? Especially in an age when so many games are made for 2 or more systems. This should only help to further marginalize Nintendo. So far I'm not impressed with the "revolution."

I like the PSP vs DS comparison lol
I was expecting a little something more from a console that's supposed to "change the way we play games"... Sure we don't know anything yet about the controller but since the PS3 and XBOX 360 were already unveiled, they could have at least given a little bit of information about it... IMO, the "we don't want them to steal our ideas" thing is bullshit (and that breaks my nintendo-fan heart lol)

I wish I had something really cool to put in my sig...

E3 2005: Revolution Details Emerge
Two-to-three more times powerful than GameCube.
by Matt Casamassina

May 17, 2005 - New details regarding Nintendo's next-generation console, codenamed Revolution, have started to sprinkle onto the Internet. The machine, which will be revealed during Nintendo's pre-E3 2005 show on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, will sport a slick, black design and a front blue light.

Revolution will be "two-to-three times more powerful than GameCube," according to Nintendo, which also acknowledges that the next-generation race isn't solely about new technologies. By contrast, Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is 13-15 times more powerful than the first, according to the publisher. And Sony says it's PlayStation 3 is roughly 35 times more powerful than PlayStation 2.

Nintendo also revealed that using Revolution's new Wi-Fi connection, gamers would be able to go online to a free gamer-matching service. Interestingly, in a move similar to Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service, Revolution users will be able to download classic and new Nintendo games over the Internet. Nintendo cited such examples as Donkey Kong and Super Mario Sunshine, which suggests that Revolutionaries could have access to games for all the publisher's previous consoles.

But being a next gen console you expect it to do more than emulate old games you probably already have on your XBox or PC.

so true, there are many snes emulator on the pc and xbox already. WHO FUCKING NEEDS A CONSOLE THAT DOES ONLY THAT !!!

anyway, i think it looks like a shoe box and its ugly. so is the ps3... omg it looks too simple. its curved out and thats all. oh wait, theres a hole on the front where the disc player is located. errr i'll pass them both

the xb360 is nice and the custom face plates will let anyone change it to the color or design they want. +1 microsoft

i dont like the xbox360 design, looks to much like a pc and is too thick,
the ps3 looks more console like and has nicer curves.

Personally, I think the additional ability to play old games increases the appeal exponentially for some non experienced gamers... you have no idea how many people at my college would play old game systems because new games are just too hard for them. If microsoft markets it right, there could be a whole new market of people that that side feature alone captures...

In any case, that's all it is. It's an additional capacity, and dissing a console because it has something extra and special like that is just unintelligent. I personally think Nintendo is a little soft i the head recently (well... from n64 till now)... but I don't doubt that there will be games that challenge any of the top ps3 or hdtv games for nintendo. I'd rather play zelda than any single game on the other two consoles...
.

oh hell... I think i'll just buy all three...

Old game systems, like the NES had especially difficult games Shocked No memory cards, so sometimes you had to start all over again if you died in the final level Mad I've smashed many a controller when playing Ghosts'n Goblins Laughing

Which must be why games have become more popular since they became easier Laughing

They haven't necessarily become easier, it's more that the gamer is rewarded with tangible progress as they play. Which allows the gamer to enjoy the experience more, so thats a possible reason why games have become more popular.

I totally agree with you Rofl_Mao.

Todays games cant even compete with the level of difficulty the old games had.
And this sucks in my opinion. Luckely there are some developers that put in extreme difficulty in their games, like capcom with their devil may cry, running that on the highest possible difficulty is not a cake walk and that rocks Smile

I would say the old games were more frustrating then difficult, mainly because you couldn't save.

Even games you could save on back in the day were harder.

One example that jumps out to me is Phantasy Star 2, that game was mean (but so freakin' awesome Smile).

hmm I didn't phrase that right... the people I know who aren't hardcore gamers that play old systems have a very ahrd time navigating and dealing with "3d" games... that's why they play old ones.

no, mainly because they were shorter and that was the only way to make them feel longer.

I never said it was a bad feature, just that you expect your next gen console to do so much more. As for everything else, well I expressed similar sentiments only earlier so I think you've come in at the wrong angle?

Whats the 'no' an answer to?

My statement was my own opinion, so I don't see how a 'no' answer would apply.

I agree though about high difficulty being a way of making the games seem longer.

by then most ppl who decided to buy a nextgen console would have either a ps3 or xbox360, nintendo should go the sega way and make some nice games for other systems, i dont see any future here.
what i also find pretty confusing is that nintendo is the one taking chances in this business, nintendo only has access to the console market, if they flop with their consoles theyre dead.
sony and microsoft can fail and still walk away healthy, their gaming department is just a single part of their whole structure, but they still dont risk anything.
