PostPosted: Fri, 19th Aug 2011 23:03    Post subject: eBay/Paypal Advice Please
On Friday July 29th I successfully auctioned a brand new still sealed iPhone 4 16Gb on the Vodafone network for £376. The buyer paid the amount by Paypal a couple of hours later. I communicated with the buyer via EBay to thank them for payment and to confirm the address to send to. I then left the buyer feedback, packaged up the iPhone 4 and despatched it the next day on Saturday July 30th by 1st class standard post. On Monday 1st August, I received feedback from the buyer which was 'excellent seller, super fast delivery, highly recommended'.

That was the last I heard of it. I got paid and they received the item.

Today someone with a different name opened a Paypal case against me for the value of £376, which was for the iPhone, stating the item had not been received, 18 days after feedback was left by the buyer.

I checked the buyers account only to find they are no longer a registered EBayer. I checked the Ebayers previous purchases and they were all for iPhones and iPhone related items.

Obviously I cannot view the eBayer that's opened a case against me as I have had no dealings with that account.

I contacted eBay by phone who after 20 minutes advised I need to contact Paypal.

I called Paypal who advised I would need to call back tomorrow to speak to the Claims Department to open a new claim.

Surely after leaving feedback after receiving the iPhone and then closing the account, this person doesn't have a leg to stand on with their pathetic attempt to scam me out of £376?!

I too had some shit with eBay n paypal last year which resulted in me having to close my paypal account.
Me and my ex split, her and her new bf used my eBay/paypal to purchase £460 worth of items.. As soon as I noticed, I tried to cancel and block my paypal account.
I rang paypal and they was useless at helping me.
A month later the £460 doubled to £920 for some reason. I again rang paypal but they was again useless.
I then found out that only 3 of the items they purchased was received which was a total of about £90... But paypal still wanted this £920 off me.
I refused to pay it and cancelled my paypal.
I rang and said why has it doubled? Why do you want that much off me when they had only actually had 3 items worth £90?
They couldn't answer and just wanted the full amount off me!!!

@ OP

I wouldn't worry...Normally Paypal will fuck you over but the fact they left feedback Wink what better proof is there than them already stating they received it. Laughing

Shame you never sent it recorded delivery tho...Expensive items i always send recorded just to be safe.

well your boned unless you sent it recorded or special delivery, they dont give a damn about feedback in most cases Sad. just read the ebay community forums on how its a bad idea to send items over £46 without using a tracked service preferably one with enough insurance like special delivery. iphones and high value items are scammer magnates im afraid Sad

Ah what are you kidding me? But they didn't put in a complaint for almost 3 weeks! I know if I paid £376 for an iPhone and didn't receive it by the estimated delivery time of 5th August (6 days after payment), I would have made enquiries a long time before 19th August!

Sad

Well I rang Paypal during my lunch break as I work all week except Tuesday and Wednesday.

I was put in a queuing system and after being on hold for 16 minutes I gave up. Who knows how much my mobile was charged for that waste of time! Apparently the Paypal Claims department closes at 6.30pm on Saturday and Sunday which is no good for me as I don't finish work until that time.

I've decided to call them Monday when they are open until 8.30pm. Getting increasingly pissed that this is now costing me money.

Here we go again. On hold waiting to dispute a Paypal claim. 15 minute queue I was told. Gone through the automated crap and been listening to classical music for just over 40 minutes now. The Claims Department closes in 30 minutes.

What a fucking joke.

Oh thanks mate. I did get an answer after 45 minutes.

They said if I don't have the tracking number the dispute will go in their favour. Which means I'll be £370 out of pocket! What a joke.

Going to the Post Office today and praying they have a tracking number on record!

If I need to call again I'll use that number thanks.

I'm fairly certain they lock the account when a complaint, callback etc. has been filed.

Yeah there is -minus £370 figure on my account. I dont think I can do anything about it.

I also went to the Post Office and they were unable to provide me with a tracking ID telling me that they do not provide records for items sent by recorded delivery.

They said if it was sent recorded delivery it would have been signed for.

They gave me a missing items form to fill in.

I think Im fucked to be honest.

PayPal said to me that the dispute is currently in the resolution centre. The buyer has 20 days to escalate. If they escalate I have 10 days to prove I sent the item. If they dont escalate the case is closed off and I dont lose £370. If they are scamming me, of course they will escalate! What the fuck do they expect me to do? Send them another fucking iPhone!?

Ebay and Paypal both suggested dealing with the buyers dispute in the resolution centre but what is the point if they know they have received the item and are simply trying to scam me?

I mean what if it is legit and they didnt receive the item?

And you know something else!? PayPal mentioned two iPhones they were claiming for! So its quite fucking possible the same person was scamming someone else. Like I said before the Ebay account was closed that I sold the phone to, but I checked the purchases and they have a complete list of feedback for iPhones!

I also told PayPal that the Ebayer had left feedback. Why would they leave feedback if they didnt receive the item?

The agent on the phone said they personally do not leave feedback until they have received the item but some people do leave feedback straight away. Apparently it is irrelevant in my case which I completely disagree with.

I mean we sent the item on Saturday morning. Feedback was left on Monday afternoon which realistically would be when they received the item. So feedback was not left straight away.

The whole thing is seriously pissing me off and the fact that they are more likely to win the dispute is complete bullshit.

Damn I should have posted this crap in the bitching section! I am now officially bitching! Laughing

Oh yeah. And ...

what you could do is ( and i did this when selling wow accounts back in the day ) i would send a letter, or in your case at least a box, registered with nothing in it, just to have prove they received "something" in case they tried to scam me.

also, you didnt lose money yet right? once you got the cash, did you transfer it from paypal to bank account? i assume thats why your paypal was at 0 and went to -370?
That case i say screw paypal, keep the account locked, dont give them the 370. you wont be able to use paypal again with the same name or credit card, but you are in your right and paypal wont go bankrupt cause of it.

Send them an empty box? Arent the dates going to make a difference? I sent the phone almost a month ago now.

I havent lost money yet correct. So you're saying I dont have to give the buyer money back at all? At the expense of losing my Paypal account?

So if they win the dispute Paypal will pay the buyer and I will be left with the minus figure which Ill have to pay back or write off the account?

Hmm.

Would Paypal be happy with me writing the account off or will they not try to get payment some other way?

they will send you letters blablabla, just ignore it, it stops after a while

and i dont know if the empty box will do much in hinsight, but you can be like "yeah i want to stay in good standing with paypal and ebay, so ill send a second iphone for the sake of it"

and then when he complains about the empty box ( good luck claiming that ) you can be like "listen paypal, first time he didnt receive it, second time i made sure it was registered but now he says its empty...."

up to you

I paid for items using Paypal a while ago and for some reason, Paypal didn't take the money from my bank account. My bank kept on authorising payments under the amount I had in my account but the amount of money in my account never changed. Anyway, I ended up owing Paypal a few hundred quid. Paypal sent me a letter asking for payment, locked my account and I never heard from them again. This was years ago.

Yeah I will do! Maybe they will withdraw their claim. Having said that I dont know for sure Im being scammed. Its just all speculation. There is a lot which doesnt add up but its possible the PayPal owner somehow still didnt receive the phone. I mean it was signed for by 'Chan'. The PayPal guy is 'Quiyang He'.

Maybe Chan signed for the phone and kept it himself. Maybe he is the guys family or neighbour or fuck knows.

And just maybe I am still being targeted for a scam!
