I've heard that there will be a playable version in E3, which can be completed in 25 minutes. But it will show every aspect of the game. mmmm....leak.....

Quote:

So we've spent months talking about what the demo would include, and weeks and weeks working diligently at it. What parts of the game to show, what happens in those areas, different kinds of combat, magic, stealth, dialogue, our Radiant AI…everything. Most of that ends up being Todd's call. He figures out what parts of the game look the best, and work together, and tell the story of what this game is about and what lets you do.

So we've got amazing forests, killer dark dungeons, and grand cities. We show interiors and exteriors, dialog, quests, fast travel, and more. We show them the new combat system, a taste of stealth gameplay, some of our magic system…you get the idea (and I'll bet it makes you salivate, eh?) It's a great cross-section of the game in about 25 minutes.

Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamri

I think it's on the mainland. Not certain how they're preventing you from exploring the whole island, but i'm hoping it's not invisible barriers.

its a message saying, you cant go any further, btw if it is cyrodil it is mainland but it aint all of the games land tough, its just a tiny province, in the oficial map it is smaller than morrowind, but i guess theyll make it bigger nonetheless !!

But that sounds so shit. I would prefer a mountain range, or a canyon or something!

Just because it's a province doesn't mean it's isolated from the mainland. So there have to be restrictions.

I think it will be smaller then morrowind but more packed with stuff. In morrowind there were areas, with a lot of bare land, with nothing on it. I guess Cyrodil gonna be packed with stuff.

Morrowind was pretty much ashland on the majority of the island, so it was a empty desert with a few oasis, Cyrodil has more forests, dense ones, not a tree here and there like Morrowind, pay heed for im a nerd at Elder Scrolls !!

Heres the map, cyrodil itself is actually surrounded by a river they could have used as barrier, but then the amount of land in the game would be very tiny, i guess they will make it so it borders every other province, if thats true then the land will be bigger than Morrowind !!

My thoughts is that this will be more a less the amount of territory, my guess not real !!

It's meant to be smaller then morrowind. But obviously it can't be that tiny island in the center because thats about 1/10 the size of morrowind.

Morrowind looks really small on that map compared to the mainland. At least it means the developers have alot to work with in the future. Was that map for daggerfall?

That tiny thing is the emperial city only !

Look at tamriel political map, do you think they'r gonna use the whole of cyrodil, that would be 5 times bigger than Morrowind but also very irregular, i think they gonna use the main city and from there there will be kind of a circunference of playable land !!

Maybe it will be the whole of cyrodil, but in game the scale will be smaller then morrowind.

Otherwise I don't see how they're going to decide where the boundaries are. I think we also get to explore the plains of oblivion.

True, but Morrowind is also much larger than the island we were allowed to play, so your point is essentially moot. My guess would be the entire area. There is much generated terrain that's going into the game, which gives the developers time (6 years now, from 1999) to work on a much larger scale. The tools provided with Morrowind generated terrain with simple height values for each tile. I'd think that the functionality of the current generator has evolved to a point that, provided a general, rough model of a landscape, the generator can give a detailed map. Once the generated terrain has been checked for problems, errors, and inconsistencies, about 80% of the game world is complete. All that's left for the devs to do is to go through the world and construct cities/dungeons where needed, populate the world (a partially randomized task, no doubt), write scripts and dialogue, and wrap the game up. I'd say that, in 6 years' time, considering the generated events I've mentioned, making a world the size of the entire map is not impossible. I'd imagine that by this time the team already has most of the game down, and is polishing it.

Ok i correct myself 5 times bigger than Vvardenfell (island from Morrowind)

You gotta notice, while the terrain generator does help making the maps with ease and smaller also, the game is expected to start having voice acting, much more events and little caverns and/or dungeons than previous ones had wich had to the size and load, one thing is surely it should have is more NPC per KM Morrowind has less people than my small village !! But the cool part of Morrowind are the mods - With forested morrowind, leafy morrowind and texture packs, the island is a much more beautiful place. Neccesities of Morrowind is my favorite mod.

I created my own mod actually.

It contains a new race, with it's own unique size and facial textures, aswell as new spells and racial abilities. I called them the Eldar, and they specialise in summoning and destructive magic.

I also added magic regeneration for spellcaster classes, and minor health regeneration for the melee classes.
