My condolences 
Seems unfair, but unfortunately life has no sense of fairness. Life is life, and death is a part of it. Much of it seems unfair and unjust sometimes, but in the end we are the ones that must make the best of it, even in the grimmest of situations.
Stay strong, that way you can help your friend go through these tough times...

You know what's unfair? Dying ten minutes after you get married. Someone I know died in a car crash, the bride survived. Another case, recently happened. Girl is ready to get married, all fun and dandy. Feels a bit sick and tired. Goes to doctor, has leukemia. Dies ten days before wedding. Little girl has heart defect. Acts up under the seething sun, girl dies on the spot while waiting on a bus. Seven year old dies in front of mother and two little siblings. Yeah, life's fun.
Good luck with your friend, must be absolutely horrible losing a sibling at that age.
