Tl;dr version: It's called Trackmania, it sounds like Trackmania, it feels like Trackmania, it looks like (a stunning version of) Trackmania. It just is Trackmania in all its glory.

Definitely worth it for me, as I expected. If you like any of the previous TM's, you'll like this just the same. For me, that means that 20 Euros will get me countless hours of gameplay.

Obviously, the beta is very, very limited.
The car is an RWD muscle car, obviously modeled after the the latest GT500/Mustang (which happens to be the only version that looks anywhere near as good as the '66/'67 model <3). It also handles like one: in other words, doesn't Razz
Once you start skidding, you have to put in some effort to control it. The angle is very important; somehow despite it being as ridiculous of a game as it should be, they've actually got quite a few realistic elements in it. To be fair though, so did TMU; they take real cars and exaggerate their properties and they did that again with this car. I see why they picked this car to show off first as well, it'll cater to the NFS crowd who love powersliding.

Before I get to my favourite part, I'll just touch on the looks and sounds. Music is as shit as ever, so fuck that. Car sounds pretty good in fact, at least good enough for what it's supposed to be. It's got a nice little roar, although nowhere near as awesome as a real Mustang (or any V8 really) Wink
Graphically, it's fucking awesome. Unlike most games these days, they still provide proper options for AA, AF, reflections, bloom (it has a "none" setting Smug), texture levels - everything. Don't think any of us expected any less. What I didn't expect however, is how good it actually looks. Judging from the menu build up and the config dialog, it's an evolution of the TMU engine, but it just looks brilliant, especially for a game as cheap as this. In fact, for a game as cheap as this, it does everything right which AAA titles do wrong - this pure arcade racer (again, as expected) does everything better than NFS, Split Second, Blur and all the other pieces of shit we get.

What pleased me most however, are the tracks. While their tracks were good in TMU, with this new engine they're able to produce even more interesting tracks. There's much more refined sections to use, Nadeo's own tracks are still built for speed and accuracy and they're just a lot of fun.

All in all, well worth the money and a worthy sequel.

Edit: I'll post some screenshots tonight. I'm not too happy with the FXAA, so I'm gonna see if I can force MSAA instead. Not sure why they only have FXAA atm Sad

If serious, tl;dr means "too long; didn't read" and is meant for those with short attention spans who can't read a small wall of text Wink

As promised, some screenshots. Nothing fancy though.

Warning: only 6 screenshots, but all of them are 1080p PNG's, so in total it's still just under 21 megs Razz

I left them as-is, so you can see just why I'm not that big of a fan of FXAA outside deferred engines where your only option is FXAA/MLAA. Check the last screenshot, way too blurred.

What's this talk about the singleplayer being "nonexistent"? Will the game contains no campaign at all?

"SP training" seems similar to one in TMu

How so?

The FXAA is Nadeo's implementation, I've forced nothing in my CP.

Damn, nothing yet?.

What protection does this use?. Some kind of UbiShit DRM variation? (since it allows offline play once you've activated the game).

Just bought it yesterday. I played a lot of TM:U. To be honest I was expecting a bit more for this second installation. I though everything would have been remade, but no it's exactly the same options/menus, the same server plugins, the same kind of everything. Nothing is new except more polygons in the cars/environments. Also a bit disappointed in the amount of players online.

I bought it too. And had loads of fun. I start it, like, 20 times a day, when i'm bored. Start, have few races, quit. Sometimes i get this rage, when failing to go cleanly through a corner after 50 tries Very Happy

Didn't try the replay editor yet. But, i'm kind a dissapointed because there's only one racing mode there. And i remember some kind of a checkpoint mode, when time didn't matter, but the number of respawns you use to get to the finish line. I liked that mode, too bad they didn't include it in TM2 Sad

They're probably going to milk you guys with the DLC. I think this is the most blatantly obvious release of a gmae with half the features of the previous iteration missing. They'll add those through DLC. Rather ridiculous if you ask me. :/

I doubt they'll do it through paid DLC, Nadeo are smart enough to realise what made TM so popular Smile

It's true that it hasn't changed much, but it didn't need to. I also highly doubt the game's been in development for years; the engine is very obviously the same one as before but much enhanced.

I at least very much enjoy it Razz
