The graphics are as I would expect from a DOTA game, it's a game that is not menat to run on powerhouses of a PC, and from what I see it runs absolutely flawlessly, and probably will do so on pretty bad computers, which I am sure what Valve aimed for.

I mean the gameplay, it's like HoN but without the shitty camera angles.

Heh, glad that the Russian commentators are doing their job at least, seems like the other commentators checked out.

The graphics IMO are excellent - easily some of the best visuals in a Source game.

Funny how it keeps getting compared to HoN and LoL, even though both are based on DotA and this isn't meant to be a new game. It's meant to be the silly little WC3 mod built out directly on a newer engine, fixing some longstanding bugs in the process. So far it seems to do that just fine.

It's what SC2 does for SC, except this one does it intentionally Razz

Question is....will it be free? I haven't read this info on any forum but maybe i wasn't paying to much attention.

it must be free to be competitive

with lol and hon both being free, who would pay for a graphical update to another essentially free game? they could maybe charge 10 bucks or something I guess.
sure, dota 1 fans would probably pay because it's exactly what they are after, but what about hundreds of thousands of players new to the genre? why would they choose this and pay when they can have something that essentially looks the same to them for free?
I doubt valve just wants to attract dota fans.. they want new blood and they can't get it unless it's free or really really cheap.

if you think sc2 is just sc1 with better graphics you have no idea.

Its not just a graphics update, this IS dota2, a TRUE sequal to THE game that started it all.

Trust me, it will be competitive enough against LoL and HoN.

dota didnt even start the genre, there were tons and tons of similar custom maps as dota, for one or another reason dota outgrew rest of them

So DOTA got it all started. My point exactly.

No, the "genre" started in SC (although I can't remember the map's name), but none of them ever did it half as well as DotA did. Then when it went the "allstars" route it just got better and better with every version. How many different versions of Enzo's are there? And 99% are fucking terrible.

For the most part, it is. Let me put it another way: it's not as innovative as you'd expect a sequel to be. WC 1 -> 2 -> 3 all had plenty of new mechanics and tricks. SC2 in comparison is weak. The SP isn't even complete for cryin' out loud Razz

For people who don't know why there was lag.
The stream started with using the DotATV in game streaming set up.
Once the stream broke 1 million viewers the game started to bug out so they had to split it off over to ownedtv set up on another side computer (why we lost the shoutcasters).

They forgot to split the China stream and that broke 1 mill on it's own so it made another huge lag spike.

By the end of the game there was over 2.8 million viewers of the main stream and it was making issues for the person spectating.

that your expectations weren't met doesn't factor into it.

the fact alone that there are many new units and gameplay mechanics have been changed everywhere takes it ouf of the 'just a graphical update' category.
I played brood war for years and I still play starcraft 2 almost every day and they just play completely differently. as I said, if you claim otherwise you are wrong.

if you have sc2 go on battle.net and play the SC2BW mod which does turn the game into a graphical update for sc1 and you will see how different it actually is.

dota 2 right now is essentially dota 1 with better graphics. their target was to make it play the same way and it probably does or they wouldn't dare make a tournament with dota 1 teams.
if you take the best dota 1 players and throw them into dota 2 they will be right at home probably, but if you try the same with brood war players and throw them into sc2 they will have no idea what they are doing.

the audio quality of the commentators is pretty bad as well.

with a prize pool like that you'd expect them to do better than that. maybe they should have taken a couple thousand dollars away from the prize and spent it on better equipment or something.

i guess they have a very limited bandwidth, thats why the commentators are bad quality and also start to lag whenever the players complain about lag

It didn't work the last time so why should it work this time? CSS never had the success 1.6 had and most pro players laughed at the game for failing so badly.

They dont care about pro players, they are not the large playerbase.

The game sold quite good compared to most games out there, so yea it worked.

Yes because DotA is such a casual game... Are you joking? It's the most competetive game out there, you can't play casually without being banned by every single player forcing you to play vs bots?
