An update on current state of the CFW would be awesome. I saw Killzone3 released today and working on 3.55 so I guess some things changed. Update, please!!

I got a ps3 recently, had 3.55 on it so i installed kimew or w/e
Works like a charm, though I need to buy a hard drive bigger than my 160 so I can fill that shit up with games I never would have bought anyways.
At least I'll be able to play The Last Guardian now when that comes out, or the ico remakes!
Next step: Buying a 32" LCD with hdmi inputs for my 360 and PS3 and hook my wii up via component. I'll be all set then.

many thanks sabin! this guide has helped me decide wtf i need to do to get some use out of a ps3 console that was given to me (it allegedly isnt working) but i have tested it and it seems fine to me-reads dvds/blu rays/ plays legit games

well.... the ps3 that was given to me has overheating problems, no matter what i did, it was squeaky clean inside.So i nipped out to game today to pick up a preowned ps3 (thinking its BOUND) to be firmware 3.41-3.55.... gutted now, its on 3.60-looks like the few games i wanted to play on the ps3 are going to have to be legit versions

Hi I flashed KMEAW firmware 3.55 at the beginning of the year, just was curious if it worked and only tried some games. Didnt toch my ps3 since that because I am (was) a starcraft 2 addict. I am trying to get away from Starcraft 2 now and play some ps3.
- 3.55 ist still the latest jailbreak firmware?
- I cant play games online now?
- I will be banned when I go online?
- Newer games probably wont work because they require a newer firmware?
- At the time I tried the games you always had to do special things before lauching a game, I think lauch a programm before and so on. Is that still necessary?

3. Nope. You can't go online with CFW, you have to update to OFW and no, you won't get banned.
4. Nope.
5. Yes, you still need to load a backup manager in order to load your games.

Thanks for the update sabin!
Of course I need a backup manager, I tried a few of them. If I remember correctly for most backups running from the ps3 hd you still had to have an origianal game disk in the ps3 drive and had to launch a special tool before the backup manager so the games work. But maybe I should just update to the newest backup manager and see myself.
So noone is banned yet? I was online with Demon Souls and custom 3.55 in January, there is no chance that they have banned me. Maybe for dark souls I will upgrade to the newest official firmware, so I hope that is possible and I am not banned.

Hi guys,
I would like to buy a PS3, but it looks like a nightmare to hack and keep track with all this patches.
I heard that there are some games which are not working because of missing hack, or we have to wait for a new patch.
So, is it smart to buy a PS3? Is MGS 4 working?

yes MGS4 works. Only games that needs 3.60+ firmware (except a few exceptions that had patches, like 10 of them max) won't work. Most games since April/May 2011 need 3.60+.

For 3.55+ PS3 : unlikely. If something gets released soon, it will be to allow 3.60+ games to work on 3.55. But for now, I think it's safe to say if you want a PS3 and play MGS4 for free, then only a PS3 with 3.55 firmware will do it for you ! (3.55+ PS3 can't be hacked, except some of them with HARDWARE downgrading)

Ok I think that I understand. A FW newer than 3.55 can't be hacked and I should avoid this PS3 if I find one on ebay.
Well, I would like to buy a PS3 but I do not want to wait and hope for a hack for 3.60 FW and newer.
I miss the PS1 and PS2 times.

You can play PS1 burned backups from CD via the latest MultiMAN releases, but PS2 backups require more work - you use either Cobra dongle for PS2 ISOs on the PS3 or a legitimate disk of SwapMagic and a USB stick with OpenPS2 Loader installed onto it, which then lets you launch PS2 backups from USB or network.

Never tried this before, but like someone else has mentioned this thread is a bit out-dated so I'm not sure how true the instructions on the front page hold today.
I might be acquiring a 2nd ps3 for a very low price, and would be interested in jailbreaking it... thing is.. it has the latest firmware 4.41... so am I shit out of luck?

Ok... So I found a guy willing to downgrade my fat ps3 down to 3.55 with the e3 flasher for $50.
He said he doesn't actually jailbreak it, he just downgrades to 3.55 and the rest is up to me.... which makes me a bit nervous... since I'm a huge noob when it comes to this.
I've found a few guides online, and have done some serious reading over the past few days...
It's mentioned that if I'm coming from a downgraded ps3, I need to first de-hash my ps3 before trying to install rogero 4.40 v1.03?
This is the guide I'm following, can anyone verify that it is legit, and the correct wa yfor me to do this?

1. Pretty much all games run from internal now, same with external and discless; the support has been increased dramatically over the years (wow.. it's really been YEARS) So just download TLoU, FTP to internal (it has a 4GB+ file so it can only natively be played from internal anyhow, unless you split the file and use the 4GB Internal Cache option or extract the PSARC but that causes its own issues) and play 
2. To run the game you just need a PS3 on 4.xx CFW, so either one on 3.55 and then update it yourself (simple psupdat.pup on a USB stick will do) or a 3.60+ OFW device and a soldered flash downgrader.
3. Yup, there's absolutely no reason to believe it won't run, everything can be patched now and it doesn't look like Sony are going to try implementing any more AP measures now.
4. Firmware updates are no longer required, but even if they are; they end up hacked fairly quickly. 4.41 OFW is out now and, of course, so is 4.41 CFW. If GTAV comes with a FW update you can just skip it and let MultiMAN patch the param for you, or wait for Rebug/Rogero/etc to bring out a new CFW and run it natively. Either way, you won't have any issues running GTAV, I'm certain of that.

I could just instal fw on my xbox but im addicted to games and I want to play all the Ps3 exclusives and replay MGS4

Backup Managers have the "payload" incorporated now, so all you need is MultiMAN (<3) and your games. As for being banned; nobody has reported being banned yet -- not even the typical "I got banned!!!! OMG!! It WILL happen to you too!!" troll comments 
I *think* there might be a clip-on downgrader, but I'm not entirely sure. It's the one part of the scene that I didn't keep track of.
