I don't care for gabe or valve as all their focus is on steam and they just keep making new source mods or 'games' instead of making something awesome like more half life games.
As if Portal and TF2 aren't two of the best games they've made.. But I forgot.. they are "mods" whatever this is supposed to mean..
Valve continue to be a game company first and foremost.
all their games are mods, ever since source all they did is bring all their old games onto the new source engine and nothing is new except portal because it was a puzzle game rather than an online team based shooter.
they do the same shit over and over and its boring they started with a great single player game, one of the bests imo and now they just make mods and sell them as games.
nothing new here with this fat fuck, just same old same old
edit: I'd be happy with a HL3 that supports dx10/11 and has a lot of pc exclusives vs console but ever since valve hoped on the console band wagon in 07 I've seen the same shit games and it will continue until there is a new xbox or ps

TF2 is definetely not simply an updated TF1
L4D1/2 are completely new games as well
Alien Swarm too
and Dota 2 as well, because the original wasn't running on Goldsource.
Along with Portal 1 & 2 that's 7 of their games, that do not belong to the HL series, that aren't what you call "mods".
Their only "mods" (Goldsource -> Source) are HL: Source, DoD: Source, CS: Source and perhaps some deathmatch games nobody plays.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."

just to clarify... when you say tf1 do you mean tfc or do you mean TEAM FORTRESS... the most awesomist multiplayer mod ever made by mankind?
TF Classic / 1.5 of course since I was referring to Valve's games.

well in that case meh. twas a shadow of team fortress and i care not for it.
Most of the TF community, including myself disagrees with you there. TFC is actually incredibly close to the original, considering how different the base games are in both cases. Movement barely differs and it has the same weapons for the most part. How exactly is it a "shadow" (i.e. very inferior to) of TF? My troll-sense is tingling like crazy here
because it wasnt as good as TEAM FORTRESS thats why. just like tf2 isnt anywhere near as good either. doesnt mean tf2 sucks or anything, but its not as good as the original.
inb4 "I don't care what that fat fuck has to say." GTFO of this thread then

Valve announced last October that it was on track for its biggest year ever, with 200% year-over-year growth. Newell says that, per employee, Valve is more profitable than Google and Apple. A potential buyer was rumored to have made an acquisition offer a few years back for the Steam piece only, but Newell supposedly refused to split the online storefront from Valve's game-publishing arm. (Valve denies being made an actual offer, only confirming that it received interest in both Steam and Valve in the past.)
Various sources value the company at $2 billion to $4 billion, which is reasonable, considering the $4 billion to $6 billion valuations being put on Zynga, the maker of Facebook game hits FarmVille and Cafe World. Newell owns more than half of the business, making the Harvard dropout a near billionaire, if not one already.

Publishers earn a gross margin of around 70% on Steam, compared with 30% via retail stores.
There you go I always told you it was around 70% and now Forbes confirms it.
Quote:
Valve's strength in PC gaming may, however, be its limiting factor. The PC game category is a mere 8% of the $50 billion industry. Newell admits to missing out on trends like mobile, Wii-style motion games and Facebook games. "If we tried to blaze new trails of our own and ride all the latest trends, we'd likely be bankrupt by now," he says.

Newell says OnLive has done admirably figuring out how to stream games, but thinks that distribution method is inefficient and expensive.
edit Also updated HL2 sales data: 12 million copies!! Insane..

if publishers are making so much more through steam sales, then there is no justifiable reason for steams prices to be hiked up so high.
in b4 the '..but valve has zero control over its own delivery system ' crap.
dont get me wrong, please... im very pro capitalism, so i dont begrudge them their success... my only point is if this were any other company, you lot would treat them differently.
