What the fuck does the pace have to do with the time it takes you to aim? OH NOES it took you more than 5 seconds to line up a shot! PACE DUN GOT BROKE! IMMERSION DESTROYED! I thought the aim of the game was to do what you liked how you liked. Fucking derp mechanics with gaminsh jernlists using random words of nothingness to justify them. Worst article yet. |
Dont worry, this is Arkane. I doubt they will adapt a mechanic that they for sure dont like. (auto aiming)

Didn't ign bitch about HR's gunplay?
Most mainstream gaming journalism is a joke, there isn't any real journalism involved and most reviews are obviously earned in $$.
As a personal note, i hate it when reviewers comment how they hate the main character since he/she/it isn't symphatetic or some shit like that.
As for the autoaim, i'm guessing they played it with a controller..

The first game by Arkane was awesome. Their last one however...
I don't expect too much from this, especially due to harvey witchboy, who was the 'mastermind' behind Deus Ex 2.

Yeah, I don't consider Bioshock 2 to be Arkane Studios.

I played a bit of Arx Fatalis today and damn, most games still have nothing on it, it's just so unique and nicely done. The setting also makes it way more different than other games in my opinion. Also, I love Dark Messiah just as much as I love Arx Fatalis, there's no better game between the both. No, Dark Messiah isn't that complex, but it doesn't want to be that complex, plus it has other things that Arx Fatalis doesn't have.

So I've heard, that it was supposed to be a real spiritual succesor to Arx Fatalis, almost an Arx Fatalis 2. Imagine that, it would have been easily in the top of the best games ever. It still is one of the best games ever for me, it's just that there's nothing like it. The combat is just pure fun and the immersion in that game... damn it!!! Where's my game Arkane? Where is it?!

A lot of it is still in the game code, just not implemented |
If you like first-person melee combat you should really give the Source mod "Age of Chivalry" a try, it's magnificent, as far as I am aware they're even making Age of Chivalry 2 on another engine... Unreal 3 I think?
Other than that there's always Mount and Blade which is a rather entertaining sandbox with the right mod, like Prophesy of Pendor

You didn't like Dark Messiah!? What the heck? |
It was a severe step down from the RPG heavy Arx Fatalis, to what was basically an FPS with nice finishing moves.
I hate it to this day, so much lost potential there.

Preview from derPC Gamer: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/08/dishonored-preview/
Quote: | How you choose to progess is up to you – like a velvet ghost or a slobbering Tasmanian Devil. However you progress, you’ll be using a broad palette of abilities. “We could talk about any aspect of the game for hours,” says Smith. “But encouraging player creativity is the most important thing. We offer the player powers and systems that interact.” That’s a fairly vague mission statement, but I’m shown some pretty solid examples. |
Quote: | In true Deus Ex style, objectives will have several methods of completion. In our mission to discover and deal with a corrupt lawyer, we overhear a conversation about a previous attempt to break into the building, which gives us a clue as to the whereabouts of a key. Instead, we possess a guard, taking advantage of Dishonored’s curious form of possession, in which your body physically enters your host, and can pour out of it, through whatever orifice, in its new location. This will traumatise the host – the guard doubles up, vomiting, as we leave him. |

Quote: | But there’s a commitment at Arkane to make these sloppy interactions king. For example, the power of possession. Possessing people gives you access to areas that person can enter. Possessing rats gives you access to small tunnels. When Colantonio says that you can also possess fish, the natural question is… well, why? The answer: because it wouldn’t make sense if you couldn’t. It’s a fantastic brand of logic that makes the ability to possess fish inevitable.
|
I look forward to possess some tuna just for the heck of it.

Quote: | Arkane Studios co-founder Raphaël Colantonio and creative director Harvey Smith recently chatted with AusGamers about the studio’s upcoming release for Bethesda, Dishonored, and both feel there is plenty of room on shelves for the first-person shooter alongside those based on military conquest.
According to the duo, making a FPS is “very complicated,” and not just from a development standpoint, but because a lot of the features inherent in a non-military shooter are a “hard sell” to the marketing people in publishing.
“For years, if you wanted to make a game like BioShock or Dishonored or Fallout — I’m talking about the new incarnation of Fallout — it would have been impossible,” said Colantonio. “You would always get the same answer from publishers ‘nah, those games will never sell. Those games are too complicated. They are between two genres. Nobody wants to buy them’, etc, etc. Because they are very hardcore or whatever. And for us as gamers well we started to believe it ourselves ‘maybe we’re screwed, from now on we’ll never play those cool games anymore’.
“So for us, when the first BioShock came out and then Fallout 3, it was like ‘wow, I think we are back. Let’s go there again’, which is awesome; they sell; they broke the rules. Those games actually can make tons of sales while they are fairly hardcore and deep and interesting and different. So that’s why we’re so excited as gamers… this genre is blossoming right now in many different genres.
“The last thing I would think we would like as an industry — as gamers — is that every game look alike at the end and people try to mimic the games that sell so well. So for us as gamers, it’s great. We can play the Call of Duty kind of game, we can play the more open kind of game, we can play all different games that are first person shooters and that’s really cool.”
Dishonored, which focuses on mid-level choice and consequence in an alternate world infested with an horrific plague, is due next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. |
They indeed have a point but,
if Fallout 3 and Bioshock are hardcore, what are Fallout 2 and System Shock 2?
All this scarcity of elitism cringes me

Fallout 2 wasn't between genres, as Fallout 3 is, and Dishonored will be.
System Shock 2 didn't sell particularly well, as Bioshock did, and he hopes Dishonored will do as well.

Yeah, sadly we will never see anything like F2/SS2 again, watered down hybrids are the hardcore titles of this generation. Mine was just a very "nostalgic" consideration, hopefully the game looks good enough to chase the bad thoughts away

The Best Thing At GamesCom 2011
Quote: |
Dishonoured is a game about improvisational gameplay' says Smith, standing in shadow to the left of the projector screen. 'It's possible to approach everything through just action and combat, or through just stealth, but really it's about mixing the two. Many games give players lots of cool skills, but in Dishonoured with only give you a few, but we make them very deep and invite you to see how you can use them to explore the game in new ways.
