The first is that on September 1, 2010, Gabe said that Valve would have “three pretty big surprises” coming in the next twelve months. As far as I can tell, we’ve only been “surprised” once, and that was with the DOTA 2 announcement.

Nope. The confirmed surprise is TF2 getting microtransactions.
As for the other surprises there are plenty to pick from:

TF2 going F2P
Portal 2 "Potato" ARG
Portal 2 PS3 includes free PC copy
Dota 2 announcement
Dota 2 tournament with the biggest prize pool in gaming's history
...

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

You'll see it. We all will see it. I'm afraid it won't be soon, though. Sad

"big" surprises was mentioned. Out of that list only TF2 going F2P and Dota 2 can be considered big.

Also it seems likely that something will be saved for the last month, being August, that's normally have these things work.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Half Life 3 sneak peak is planned for August 31.

The Potato ARG was pretty huge. No one knew what it was about and it was on a scale never been done before.

I'll eat my TF2 hats if they show anything about HL3 in August. Wink

That was actually pretty amazing, especially if we consider that it was made on a $250 budget Smile

Well, $250, and a $6000 camera. Wink

Indeed, though, amazing work. It's been a huge week for Valve fan-films.

I love the atmosphere of this movie. It really looks, sounds and feels like the world from Half-Life 2 universe. Totally amazing stuff.

I just love the HL2 soundscape, tracks, and sounds. Their clever use made the fanfilm that much cooler Smile
