HL2 wasn't bugged, nor was it flawed. It was just uninspired.

i hope that's not the final image. i was expecting some really nice lighting effects and glasses reflect light Razz

anyway nice pics and its looking great as usual. Does any1 know if the levels are actually based on what chernobyl looks like now? like from sat images etc. or is it just based on the event/s there with a bit of a similar atmosphere?

well not sure about the sat images thing, but i do know the developers went out around chernobyl and explored the areas, taking pictures and whatnot to capture the look and feel. sounds like they also did alot of research into it so should be pretty realistic depiction, imo.

heres a quote from a gamespot Q&A about the realism ect of the areas in the game:

In terms of the game's atmosphere, with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., we're doing our best to render an incredibly eerie and evocative mood that does justice to the size of the industrial and ecological catastrophe that took place. All the notorious areas of the Zone will be easily recognizable. The game will feature the Chernobyl power plant sarcophagus, the dead city of Pripjat, the Red Forest, and other sites. Photos and video footage captured during our research trips has allowed us to build a realistic re-creation of the exclusion zone--all of the textures are authentic copies of the buildings in the Chernobyl area. In all, over 60 percent of the Zone we created in S.T.A.L.K.E.R is an authentic model of this very real, but very deadly, place.

btw am i the only one wanting to kill humans in FPSes? seems like monsters is the hot thing with developers today:( (eccept perhaps for project: snowblind which kicked ass)

you kill humans competing Stalkers and, mutants I would call it, based on the radiation from the reactor. that is my guess.

I dont like that new dx9 look of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. !!! It looks now so plastic. this is not only in stalker. many new games with dx9 effects looks like damn plastic world. It seems that programers and designers dont know the right measure of reflection and other gang bang effects on some materials. I'm afraid STALKER is going down like Meteor in any way.

Some people even live inside the exclusion zone, at the edges. Tests were done on their food and it was found to have a radioactive content 200 times what is considered safe. They lose their hair early, and their teeth fall out more easily, but otherwise they're as healthy as the next person.

You can still go in there but it's at your own risk and you have to be decontaminated on the way out. Apparently it's safe enough, as long as you don't go near the reactor and don't stay there for very long.

The muzzle flash is so horrible. The phsyics aren't smooth. And i can't tell if the video was choppy or the game engine. Probably the game engine. They need to play Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and copy their damage system as well as their weapon effects. Raven Shield has the best muzzle flashes, gun sounds effects, and gun smoke particles.

obviously some people just arent ready to accept a game that has combat and graphics like a fps but plays like an open-ended rpg. well good thing its not geared towards 12 yr old counterstrike players anyways.

Exactly. It's not as if Deus Ex had good graphics, or tight physics. But the gameplay, story and character interaction made up for that.

I like when you see the huge shadow in the room in that video (also in those pictures) and when you go to have a look you see a 'small' rat. Love those shadow effects very scary and immerse imo, and not to mention realistic.
Looks very good to me, can't wait to play this baby
