Super Meat Boy for 15 dollars on XBLA, it was 7,5 at the beginning for the PC.

Wait till December for the annual sales and buy it for 2.50-3.7 4$/€ like I bought Stupid Meat Boy.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Well like I said "not saying it can't be cheaper" but I wouldn't count on it.

Follow-up:
Hydrophobia on XBLA: $10
Hydrophonia: Prophecy on Steam: $12 (right now it's $4 due to the summer sales, but it won't be anymore from tomorrow)
It's a late port and it's $2 more expensive.

Agreed.
Any time a company treats us like shit, I'll just enjoy stealing their game. How's that MS exclusivity pay taste now, eh bitches? Stick it up your arse.

They didn't treat us like shit. Treating like shit would be for example releasing a very bugged game and refusing to patch it.

I do hate this as well and I dont agree with Playdead, but Im still buying it,as long they wont do creepy port and use UBI like DRM. games that you really like and dont hurt you plaing it should be bought IMO.
this is my openion at least,do wahtever you like with this game and Playdead.

i think too that buying the game and having good sales will encourage the developer to think twice before doing an exclusive release , otherwise low sales will lower their motive to do more PC releases and be like "fuck that shit PC sales are shit anyway"

Looks like I'm not the only one
What fable2 says is very true, example: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/03/introversion-its-unlikely-that-well-work-with-microsoft-again/
Quote: | Mark Morris – the business mind behind Introversion – has declared at GDC that he doesnt believe the team would ever work alongside industrial giant Microsoft in the future.
“Do we regret working with Microsoft?” said Morris. “No, but it’s unlikely we’ll work with them again … they make you work harder on the production value, but they don’t back it up with sales.”
Referring to the Xbox Live Arcade ports of Darwinia and Multiwinia, Morris remarked: “XBLA were good to us and put us in the deal of the week, but it had no impact. Steam promotion was an order of magnitude better.” |
And Playdead isn't a big developer/publisher (eg Epic) or one that was traditionally developing for the PC (eg Remedy), I can completely understand why a bunch of newcomer indies took the opportunity MS gave them. You'd have to be braindead or have money to burn to say no to such an offer for your first game. I'd sign exclusivity with MS/Sony/Nintendo/heck_even_Steam_if_they_required_it in a heartbeat if I was an unknown indie developer.
^ IMO of course.

this is true. Limbo is a labour of love. the market was not exactly crying out for a depressing dark 2d platformer.
they have great ability and prob tons of confidence it would be a great game, but that doesn't pay the bills (at least not till its a release.) they didn't know how well it would be received.
look at a game like winter's voices, extremely original, dealing with depressing source material and even now, after the glitches and performance trouble has been fixed, most people hate it because its not "happy". the point of that example is challenging people with uncomfortable experience is always risky in any medium.
an original art style and narrative isn't always enough to sell. so if MS wants to come, and pay all your employess wages and help cut the cost of development a significant amount,. who in their right mind would turn that down, if i was working for a developer who sacrificed the completion of a project everyone had worked so hard on for many months, just to appease the hardcore PC crowd, i would be more than a little pissed
i doubt they are regretting it now when see some random PC nut who is saying they are evil for partnering with the big corporation. sometimes you need to sacrifice to have your art reach the end goal.
HOWEVER if they release this for 20 euro's THEN ill happily call them prats and pirate the game.

They were a small, new-born, newly-formed company that needed solid funding. Still, though, that's not a well-justified excuse of making their game an XboX exclusive.
