Yeah, every episode is a modern adaptation of a book. Some details change because they wouldn't fit in modern day, but most of it is pretty close.

different shows. sherlock is dr who. basically. charisma etc etc even the writing. since the show was written by the new head of dr who  Luther is vile and cruel and awesome.
Both shows are great. I prefer luther though. If I weren't a dr who fan, i'd give sherlock the vote up, but as i am, the similarities to the dialogue (even though great and fantastic) put it down a notch.

Pretty good, but Luther's more my cup of tea.
Also,
 Spoiler: | Saw Moriarty's identity coming from a mile away, that was a bit of a disappointment. 
Plus the "Sherlock theme" annoys me a bit, and since it's used every 5-10 minutes... |

Bad news, new season will not start this fall 2011 but early 2012 due to long filming schedule..
