Far Cry seems to be one of the first available games for the new Windows 64bit. The developers claim higher frame rates and better textures for the 64bit version. Plus you get some new areas for single player and some new maps for multiplayer. You can download the 64bit version for free at the above link, the 32bit version is required too (the download is about 1GB)

(P.S: I did search but found nothing)

The performance is no better and the supposed improvements to visual quality are hardly noticable. Shame really.

Hardly noticable? Did you even watch all the compared screens, and not just a few? Some have smaller differences, but overall it's much better on the 64bit version, without a doubt.

The 64 bit version certainly does have more detail. Which you prefer is really a matter of taste. Some of the changes I prefer the old.

Of course it's a mather of taste, but the differences are huge and on top of that, the 64bit version looks way more real.
I do prefear the more real looking images above, but I do not like the new shiny rocks. Rocks do not shine like that and I have seen plenty of rocks in my life Smile

Edit: They have overused the stones in that water image btw, alittle less stones so you could actually see some sand had been perfect Smile

Actually i've played it, you don't even notice the changes unless you're looking for them. On top of that, the pebble texture you posted in the second pic is in loads of areas and it looks completely out of place.

I was going to install windows 64 and then get the patch but since seeing it being played it's not worth the download.

Differences are huge? Please don't talk out of your ass.

Haha.
I'm talking out of my ass? Look at the images.................
Sure areas with less cliffs wont change much, but most outdoor maps in farcry do have a crapload of cliffs, so how anyone can miss the change on them is beyond me? Confused

Apart from that stone texture you see in the water, I didn't notice any other differences in the singleplayer. Sure, there are differences, but you don't really notice them without them being pointed out in direct comparisons like that.

If the differences were huge it should be obvious.

I was expecting something more. Ah well, at least they've made the effort I suppose.

A huge difference is when you go from something like : Wolfenstein 3D to Half Life 2, thats a big difference.

Here i see several tweaks and stuff, and on occasion the 32 bit looks nicer, imho.

That's how you interpetrate the word huge.
In my world, huge can mean alot of things, and in this case it means that you can easily see the differences.

Well incredible as it might seem, I hadn't been playing farcry 5 minutes before I was shown the 64bit version. You're only noticing these differences because you have direct comparisons, but I hadn't played farcry for a while and when I saw the 64bit version the only thing I noticed different was that pebble(?) texture.

Really, these changes are far from huge, unless you're now making up your own definitions for words.

How I define my words is not really what this is about.
In my opinion (I can have one, right?) it's a huge difference on those images.
I never said the whole game is a huge difference, I posted those two and those two are huge in, again, my opinion.
Like it or not, but my opinion stays Wink

Waste of time. Not even worth upgrading to 64 bit chips. The review clearly states on last page "This can be run on a 32-bit system" as well if needed. Just another scam to make users by technology that is useless right now.

actually with ps3.0 and HDR lighting there is a pretty awesome difference(havent tried 64 ver out yet tho), and really isnt just a marketing gimmick. the effect of light shining in your eyes, besides looking good, also plays a part in the action, you cant just run outdoors and start shooting unless you wanna be aiming blindly into the sun. and i guess even hl2 is going to be doing hdr soon too. i picked up a 6600gt because the price was low and my 9700 was aging. anyways its too bad ati didnt pick up on the ps3.0 thing, not until they come out with their new super uber cards this june or whenever..

Have to admit the difference isnt huge but its noticeable if you've played the game through 10 times already......however that doesnt mean there arent going to be games developed to make real use of AMDS cpu optimisations.

i downloaded the video yesterday. Pretty nice. But I'm sure a 32 bit system nowadays can handle the view distance.
and wtf is everyone talking about the new textures or HDR lightning?
This has absolutely nothing to do with a 64bit processor. These are just graphics.

The only thing where you need a stronger CPU are the physics.
The rest will be handled by the graphic card and you really can't compare a expensive radeon 9800 pro which was a ub0r card when Far Cry came out with a 6600gt. Surely the 6600gt will handle more.

It's just a good marketing trick.

When people look at the video and see the empty room with a desk and a shelf and then the 64bit version, I bet they think: Wow a A64 can add all this stuff automatically??

P.S.: the new cliff und beach texture looks really shitty!
even the older one looked more realistic.
P.P.S: the new offset mapping really looks great!
