AA is a great triple action game.
SMG is one of the best designed video games ever made.
my opinion of course. but its an opinion backed up by many many people.
Wii may not be hardcore, but nintendo as 1st party developer are in my opinion consistently one of the most innovative out there.

The main problem with these kind of lists, is that they never bother to clearly explain what criteria was used.
The selection is all over the place below 20's:
*It's not based on purchases, because WoW should then be at 1st place.
*It's not about micro-transactions, because Zynga games would dominate everything.
*It's not about technical achievement, because Crysis would be not be at 94.
*It's not about "universal" popularity, because titles like Angry Birds/The Sims would be in top ten.
*Nor about advertisement money, because CoD would not be at 19.
*It's not about story, because at least half of them, don't even have one.
*And for sure it's not about being well-rounded. Because.. well, don't think I need to expand on that one.
Think they just create a list of their (very dubious) top 20, and leave the rest to fill it with stuff that may "please" the different crowd segments (hence, you have your PC/PS3 only games + some Web stuff + High profile Indies just to look smart).
My take, at the very least.

Most people here haven't even played a console game in their life, but they still judge the console picks...

That's a ridiculous generalisation if ever I heard one. How do YOU know what most people have or haven't done?

It's uncanny just how arbitrary quite a bit of these top lists look - there is usually no sound reasoning behind the choices or, say, a game being above the other and the whole thing reeks of a dart board.

Bring Down the Sky is such an underrated dlc... I simply loved it. Pinnacle Station is very weak and pretty stupid but it's good for the experience and gear you can get.

I would be inclined to agree if they'd put Mass Effect 1 as Nr 1, Mass Effect 2 is inferior in nearly every way.

It's called niche. There is no such thing anymore... To maximize profits and reduce risks (because making such "AAA" games costs a LOT of money...) they try to appeal to EVERYBODY.
It's like in Game Dev Story. Which platform has the most consumers(PS360)? Which direction is currently preferred? (Science Fiction, RPG Shooter) Hmm... Gameworld maximum, Sound and Graphic very high, a lot of accessibility and simplicity. Voila.
Adventure games were for adventure freaks, simulations for the ones who liked simulations. Now they try to mix it up in every game and the problem is that they do it just half assed. Like all those "sand-box" games. Where you can "do what ever you want." ... Yeah, except for everything you want and just the things that the developer wants you to be able to do... so that their nice "gameplay" mechanics don't fall apart. Invisible walls, instead of nice level design, ultra fast regenerative health instead of well balanced weapons, enemies, ai and collectibles... and so on and so on...

In the end, it all comes down to profits. It's a cookie-cutter industry these days, the same tired old nonsense being trotted out year after year, with VERY few truly engaging and innovative titles being released - simply for the reason you stated; risk.
