We kept coming back to one old and loved game that represented many of the concepts we where incorporating into the new game. Many of you will know this game as Tribes, the original online multiplayer shooter. As of now, Hi-Rez Studios is the proud new owner of the Tribes franchise.
What we know so far is that the new Tribes is being designed as an MMO with a persistent battlefield, and it will have three factions, air and ground vehicles, jetpacks, skiing, and should support a hundred players or more. No word on deployables or kit customization yet though.
An alpha/beta opportunity should open up a few months as well according to Goren which should offer fans a chance to see how the title is shaping up.

I don't think we have seen much of this to decide. Not that Section 8 or sequel are any good, just saying we haven't seen much of this to decide if it is anything better.

Just got back from Quakecon 2011, played for about 3 hours nonstop. The good ol' Tribes feel is definitely there, graphics are more similar to Tribes:Vengeance (all the guns have led displays on them indicating remaining ammo) but the skiing and movement is a bit slower, which kinda took me back to Tribes 2. (If you are light armor you do ski and move faster).

Are you saying HiRezStudios is making two Tribes games? Perhaps the MMO mentioned in the original article is in plans for the future. Still seems a bit unlikely to me.
