I want to know if it is worth reinstalling this game and play on Ultra with an Oced 6870 & Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz. Somehow I doubt it will run @ 30FPS with this card.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The originals look artificially sharpened as well, so he likely does some processing to them in photoshop: sharpening, color correction, contrast etc, although he doesn't admit it.
Detail from his "original" shot:
Look how sharp it looks.

^ Yes, that's a difference between them, but he doesn't mean that.
This guy's dx9 shots look better than anyone else's in terms of sharpness and color and he always claims they are direct screenshots and that's simply how the game looks for him.
He's shopping them, there's no other way..

He disabled that Temporal AA or whatever the fuck Crysis 2 has on by default. Thats why the screens look crisper.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
No, I ran it disabled and it doesn't look like that. And the textures don't "carry" that much detail either.

Pff, what an idiot if true. If he's been called out before and he hasn't been able to provide the config to reproduce the look then he's full of shit.
Still that screen fucking wide piece of shit blur, sigh.
Bah , all by default , u can remove teh blur.
About the game , the update , no much difference , but the game is more enjoyable .I can't compare this to a console game.
Now i'm waiting sandbox3/sdk , because the engine stay awesome. (& i need it for an architectural project )
The amount of textures in crysis 1 are still alot less then crysis 2. The open ended outdoors is simply a circus of repeated texture use masked by texture blending.
- Yes, and You can apply this principle on most surfaces here as well, but it would mean more memory needed and more importantly, probably a different memory management system.
Crysis 2's urban landscape uses alot of custom textures for different wall and building types, and may contain many custom one use textures for things like signs and streets.
As for the quality of the new high res textures vs user made patches, alot of things come into play here. The biggest one being that the official crysis 2 textures were actually sanctioned by the main team and follows along with the visual style the team has agreed upon for this project. After all YOU may like the user made texture patches, but that dosn't mean the design team does and it may not fit in with the game style they have layed out.
- And that is why we have this debate here. Because we want official content, not user-made content.
Also there is really the big question on how many of the textures in those texture packs that are actually free to use. As someone who has been through the demo scenes MOD music days and midi music sound banks, you learn that the best collections of works are usually filled with illegally ripped and/or used resources.
- Don't give a damn. Kind of silly thing to say on this board of all places.
Lastly is how much of a performance loss the crysis 2 team found to be acceptable. You can add high res textures till your eyes bleed but eventually you run out of systems that can run it.
- That is a weak excuse. Textures can easily be resized on loading, as well as loading mipmaps and so on, you know, methods that were thought of back in the day when people were innovating. Do you perhaps remember the texture slider? And not the crappy low-medium-high where you usually don't even notice the difference.
Also, practically, when applying these textures mods, which are mostly comprised of 2048x2048 textures, the computer doesn't explode, and the game actually loads. With all the RAM and VRAM available to day on computers, especially the ones this patch is supposedly aimed at, this is a very moot argument to say the least. But Crytek played it safe and now even Intel Integrated can enjoy DX11. Woohoo.
Or perhaps your argument is that the developer knows best, all criticism is futile? If so, that is one of the worst arguments I have ever heard, right up there with "Can you make better? No? Then shut up!" and "Did you buy it? You don't have legal right to complay". The essence of fora is for people with different opinions to meet and debate.
