Less of a mix, the majority is Adventure with a few action scenes to make the game more varied, although some critics and players suggest to skip the action scenes (yes, they're skippable) since they're rather boring.
Don't expect an even mix between action and adventure like GTA.

How related is it to fahrenheit then?

I talked about it in the xbox-thread. But I'd say if Sierra came out with Police Quest today, it would look and play like L.A Noire. I also think it has a feeling of the Tex Murphy games, Under a Killing moon etc, if you ever played them. I would go as far as saying, if you like those kind of games you'll like L.A Noire.

Yeah, I remember police quest vaguely. Can't wait then.

Huh? People are still playing, modding and discussing GTA 4. They can't have done that bad.
Sure it ran like a dog first out, but they made a damn fine game.

GTAIV was playable from the start with settings turned way down and the patches started coming out not long after release.
However I'm sure they've learnt something about their game engine by now so to expect the same early experience is a bit silly.

It's not the exact same engine, the console versions weren't developed by Rockstar North who developed the console version of GTA IV, and the PC port is not developed by Rockstar Toronto who made the PC version of GTA IV; thus there's no indication at all the performance will suck. Let's wait and see.

Isn't this (LA Noire) entirely by Team Bondi using their own engine (As development was already heavily underway when Rockstar took over publishing rights for it.) thus there's no way to know how it will run?
EDIT: Might download the X360 ISO files for GTA IV and LA Noire to compare that better, we'll see.

They *claim* it's their own engine, but then... if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck.... it's a sodding duck. The only thing "Team Bondi Super Engine Weee It's All Ours We Promise!" has that's different to RAGE, is the lack of Euphoria.

Well yeah you're right about that Rockstar would likely have contributed more than just money (Which they supposedly spent a lot of to finish the game, more than expected actually from that article Consolitis posted earlier.) so they could be on the "RAGE" engine but I am uncertain.
(Would have been a lot of extra work but then again it was supposed to be out in mid-2009 and then early 2010 and so on.)

Digital foundry says:
Five years in development, the final version of L.A. Noire may be using a variation of the same RAGE engine that underpinned Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption: certainly a number of graphical techniques carry over from the previous games into Team Bondi's epic.
but that's speculation. The truth likely is some parts are based on RAGE but also there is custom code by Team Bondi.

the engine talk seem like the same as around Half Life. The talk about if it was Quake 1 or Quake 2 or something totally different. If I remember right it had base in Quake 1 but heavily modified with their own code and some of Quake 2....could be something along that line here too?

It's the reverse situation of HL.
LA Noire: their own engine -> RAGE engine
HL: Quake engine -> their own "GoldSrc" engine
Newell has said back in the day:
Quote: | We have the source code to the original DOS Quake, Win Quake, GL Quake, Quake World, Quake II, and all of the various patches. We pick and choose from that source base depending on what we are trying to do. However, we've been implementing a lot of our own sub-systems (animation, AI, GL and software renderer), so about 75 per cent of the engine is our own code. |

Either way, no matter engine or not it is a good game. It does look very GTAVI-ish I tend to agree though, except the facial animations.

Too bad car physics suck so much in LA Noire compared to GTA.

What about horse physics and handling in RDR?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Hmmm I doubt it.
LA Noire's first DLC was released in the same week of the PC version announcement, and I doubt that it will be the only one...
