I'm not that impatient for this patch as some individuals here, it will fuck up the performance of the game as there will be 1/3 more of the screen to process. I'm very happy of the performance right now because it looks gorgeous and run somewhat smooth in most cases on my old crappy rig. I'm afraid that after this patch I would need to downscale some eyecandies and I don't like that idea very much Razz

From my understanding it's about remowing black bars for square-shaped monitor displays, I'm not gonna change the resolution, I just hope that there will be an option to choose the aspect ratio for specific resolution...

You serious? All that proper 16:10 support will do is fill the black bars with pixels by taking away some from the sides, which basically means you will have more vertical space and less horizontal than you have now. It will not affect the performance at all, since the graphic card will not actually have to process any more pixels than it does now. You will just see more of Geralt's legs and less stuff on the edges of the screen. . Basically, what we will get is hor- and vert+.

True, they could in fact only add to the vertical (though I kind of doubt it, since this would actually make the 16:10 display superior to 16:9), and I hope they do. I hate losing screen space, even if it means I get more of it elsewhere. Laughing I have enough graphic power... what I lack is CPU power. My GPU is very rarely at 100% usage (though that could also be due to engine optimization).

In other news, I really should get a good 16:9 display sometime soon (less and less games will support 16:10 in the future, I'm sure of it), but I just can't find one (not in the 400 - 500 price range anyways) that would provide such good IQ as my 5 year old 16:10 baby does. Anyone knows of a good one that is perhaps not too expensive?

Just because FoV will be different it doesn't mean it won't process more pixels. In fact, it will process 33% more. For example current 1280x720 rendering surface will become 1280x980 rendering surface (with zoomed in FoV). 33% more pixels.

P.S.
It's interesting to point out that Bioware, for example, did it differently for two of their flagship RPGs. Mass Effect 2 had increased "vertical view" in 4:3 mode (essentially filling black bars), while Dragon Age 2 had reduced horizontal FoV in case of 4:3 (so vertical view is same for both 16:9 and 4:3).

Of course, in both cases, cinematics and dialogs had fixed 16:9 view.

I find that hard to believe, there's been some really good IPS and *VA based monitors that are actually suitable for gaming in the last year and a half or so. What monitor do you have now?

I don't think there will ever be 16:10 support. Also no official forums. Their focus is now on their new audience and this audience only uses the internet for chatting, twitter and facebook. Rolling Eyes

Couple of days ago there was a post on the GoG forums by some dude "marcin" about the patch. He said that there is still no ETA for release but that the team is still working on it.

This "delay" (I only await a fix for F5 quicksave bug) doesn't bother me much, tbh. I think/trust these CDP Red guys will deliver, the same as they did with TW1 (even if it took some time for it).

Witcher thinks my PC sucks Sad it chooses "low spec" after checking my system (GTX580, i7 2600k @ 4.8GHz, 8GB RAM). Makes me wonder what kind of hardware is required for it to select even "medium" settings Wink

Likely a common bug with unknown hardware (I mean it can likely find the GPU but perhaps can't see the more RAM - there are a few other titles that bug with anything above 4 GB though it's often like this just for settings and not the actual game and likely it doesn't quite know what the CPU is.) unfortunate that these device ID or descriptions haven't been updated though if that's the case but not that uncommon.

Don't worry! Your PC WILL suck in a relative short time. They all do eventually. Very Happy

But, anyhow, this launcher is bit messy indeed. On a first install of the game, the launcher detected "medium" recommended settings and on a second it chose "low". Have to set them manually as I please.

Not such a big hassle, but it's bit annoying to see something else not working properly in the game. For example, I can't play the game due to a bug that crashes the game to desktop quite often when I quick-save or save the game.

Considering the time to make it, this patch should be the biggest to date. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they throw us something special for the extra wait.

I doubt it. It will probably be like 15mb and fix 5 things, like usual.

something special for the wait? i dont think pc gamers are registering very heavily on their collective minds at the moment... our 'treat' is if we actually GET patches before their 'baby', the console release, comes out.
