Game is somewhat shorter than Witcher 1, but there are two different second acts depending on your choices in the first. See if you have ubersampling enabled in the configuration utility. I am getting around 30-35 on a q6600 + 8800GTX with a combination of high and medium settings with ubersampling off.

How long is the game ? I remember the first one took me ages to finish. Loved the complexity of it all.
Also, i'm playing the gog version, because i read it gets better performance due to the lack of protection. Can i apply patches to it ? Where can i check what version i'm running? Just hoping for some extra performance. I'm currently running it on a 450, 4gbs of ram and my e6750 @ 3.2 ghz and it doesn't run particularly well. I have to run it windowed @ 1600x1200 to get around 30 fps
other than the performance the game seems really cool so far. Love the art direction. Especially the first proper town. |
As it was said already, it is shorter than the first Witcher, but it certainly isn't worse. In fact, I like the second part a lot more and I already was a huge fan of its predecessor. I think it takes around 30 hours to complete the game (with all the side quests of course).
At this point it doesn't matter whether you are using the gog version or not, because patches remove the copy protection which had negative effects on performance. If you have SKIDROW's release then do the following: install the game, install the patch in the crack directory (don't apply the crack itself!) and install the other official patches (1.1 and 1.2 at this point). Installing the latest drivers/hotfixes for your graphics card won't hurt either.
Yes, the game is very cool, I've completed it twice already and I can't wait to play it again. The art direction is nice as well, I like all three chapters in terms of design.

I think im burned out on the game for a while after 2 playthroughs. A shame there wasn't a "witcher path" like there was in the first game. But overall this was a huge improvement over the first game, minus a few idiotic design choices (like not being able to take potions unless you're meditating, the stupid rotating compass with no direction to name a few off the top of my head). I remember taking about 60 hours to finish the first game, but quality over quantity for me, and the story was presented so much better in this game, and the combat was fun for the most part.

So for the gog version i can just download the regular patches and apply them with no other steps required ?

i agree with w123... not having a witcher path really sucked - in fact i thought the neutral path in the first game ended up being the most personally rewarding and making the most sense to me, but i guess this is cdp's way of saying neutrality is for fags, we want to force you to pick a side and become biased for the next game, motherfucker.

I finished it yesterday. My first and only playthrough. I think I got the shittiest of all the available endings.
Spoiler: | Took on Roche's path. Killed Henselt. Killed the dragon. Wacked off Letho. And the end was merely consisted of Geralt and Triss walking out of Loc Muinne. And then the credits started rolling in. At this point I prefer the style of multiple endings presented in the recent Fallout games. With a simple slideshow summarizing all the decisions you've made throughout the game. |

you know, in some places the term 'wacked off' can mean something other than what you think it means...
biggest disappointment in terms of the ending, was after the credits. i dont know what other people got, but all i got was a shot of geralt looking at the city, then turning around and walking off... lasted, i dunno, 5 seconds or some shit? for a post-credits sequence, thats just bullshit. so unnecessarily empty and irrelevant.

CRT and nvidia, huh? Well then you have to wait for the 1.3 patch where CDPR makes up for your inability to build a proper gaming PC.
Spoiler: | I just want this to reach 400 pages. |

I played it on 16:9 and definitely not on console
*it was totally awesome *
But it's really weird that it takes them SO LONG to actually fix this. Do they really have hardcoded 1.77777777777777 in there or what?

From what I can tell it denotes main storyline quests. I can be wrong, though.

That's only there to create a post-game autosave as I believe, for upcoming expansions/TW3.

Mo? What's a bloody Mo? I almost killed the stupid Krayen and during the quick time event where you ride the tentacle it was LMB, RMB which are pretty standard and then it said Mo. Naturally not knowing what it was I crashed into the bridge god dammit, maybe it meant my mouse 4 button which I use for dodging.

Space/dodge perhaps as you guessed, I don't remember many QTE's using more than MB2/MB1 however.

and having the game quicksave at the start of the credits was unacceptable?
atleast they could have added in a better post-credits scene.. something to hint at the next game.. anything other than what they did, because regardless of the reason, its the player perception that matters most - and was there anyone who saw that, that wasnt disappointed?
for all the things they did well in this game, there really are so incredibly stupid and painful design choices as well to be honest.

Any news on the latest patch? Even though I've beaten the game and not currently planning to do a replay, I might be considering one in July where for now it seems to be the driest month of the year.
