It is all a tradeoff between unit sales and licensing rights.... make a system easy to crack you sell boatloads of units but get little licensing rights.... Make it impossible to crack and sell far fewer units and maintain the licensing rights. Personally I would wager that the money Sony would make if they released a UMD writer for PC would be exponentialy greater than what they will make by keeping everything proprietary. BTW Compact flash prices are incorrectly quoted in this instance.... we are talking MemStick DUO here which is yet another proprietary sony media format. Uggg. Damn Japs.

Well then touche... but it only proves that the data can be dumped...
its a whole different thing if they get it to run...

P.S. yes there was some homebrew software some guy made that will run off the mem stick but it required you to have a non-updated japan psp...
the origionals 1.0

Theoretically there is a flaw in the origional firmware that allowed home brew software to be ran of of the mem stick... which could also mean the same for psp games thats been dumped to a memory stick...
although the flaw is no longer present in the 1.5 firmware which is in the us models

so even though dumping was successful... its a whole different story when it comes to using it

Well, we'll see a way to play releases on the jap psp's within days/weeks, maybe a month (or more) for the US firmware...

lessee, better screen... faster warez... no umd problems... methinks a Japanese PSP is just what I'm going to get.

anyway It has been runned on a 1.5 system.
http://www.media.pspscene.com/hsdemonz/PSP_Videos/naoneo_from_psp_on_efnet_working_on_getting_backups_running/wipeout.avi

Though the 1.5 PSP can't run the homebrews and other things so he gets the error....

its useless right now because all that these isos can do right now is take up space... there is as of yet no way to actually run them

Well in terms of playing them yes... But you are all forgetting what a huge step it is to actually break the PSP down to Homebrew Software, Gaming on the memory stick etc.

Think of it in Battery life terms as well Smile

If its reading from the Memory stick it will be Faster, You wont need to Power the motors (Saving battery power) and you wont need to power the laser (again saving battery power) Very Happy

well, they've obviously figured out how to compile and write code for the PSP
http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000463042387/
Next step is to use the same compiling routines and code to run a "shortcut" program. Principle here's simple: extract files from the image onto a folder in the memory stick. Have shortcut start the executable file in that folder (and maybe at a later stage, derail the UMD drive and mount that folder or image as a UMD drive). Hell, I'd work on this myself if I knew more about coding than I do about Chinese (I know it's line-y).

Edit: I realize that there might not be a mounting function for the PSP, so an alternative would be to wait for Sony to release their Bios injection tool (along with some bios update), hack the 1.0 bios (or the new one, what do I know) to execute code directly from an image file (or from an extracted file). From there, Linux!

A. You are able to play all the EU games when they arrive on either your imported American or Japanese machine. Though its the UMD Movies which are region locked and therefore you can't watch UMD movies which are bought in EU on a Jap or US machine.

B. Borrow your parents credit card Very Happy Wink

In some cases yes.

actually ALL games are region locked but it will only prevent you from playing multiplayer games with someone who has the game from a different region...

If you have a japanese copy of the game you can only play multiplayer with a person who also has a japanese copy of the game

the same with US copies
