It's funny how everyone is up in arms about what they're doing, rather than taking a moment to stop and ask this question -
How is it that all of these multi-million/billion dollar companies are getting all of their sensitive data stolen by a bunch of supposed amateurs and script-kiddies in the first place?
Sure, what they're doing is illegal, but if THEY can do this much damage, how much info do you think has been garnered by the real black-hats that never say a word and don't dare speak about their achievements?
The bottom line is that everyone is entrusting their personal info / financial info to these supposedly respectable companies, who one would think would at least have some decent security in place, when in reality the companies either simply don't give a shit and cut corners where they can, or are just plain inept.
The way I look at it, these guys are doing somewhat of a public service. They're stealing stuff yes, but the heat they are bringing down on these companies ensures that they get their shit together in the future.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Excellent point and that crossed my mind as well.

The problem is that they stopped showing flaws in security, now they're just doing DDoS attacks on random targets.
They're not exposing anything that needs to be exposed, they're simply being jackasses. No one is going to learn anything from this except "yeah those guys sure are assholes".
They lost the last excuse they had when they simply decided to take down login servers.

What are these guys trying to accomplish anyway? I'm more curious about Anon taking on Ben Berneke then lolsec using proggies to hack databases.
PC Specs: A Maganavox' Odyssey
Tweaked to play Frogger, Lemmings & GTA4

Accomplish? Absolutely nothing. They're in it to be the biggest fucking douchelords they can be. And doing a damn fine job of it. I can't wait to see them cry when they're caught and thrown in some country's federal-pound-me-in-the-ass prison

So hackers are 'cool' if they make it possible to play downloaded games on game servers yet woe betide em if they do anything that may inconvenience any of us.
Then they are asshats, douchebags, & script kiddies who deserve anal raping. Why? Cause you reckon your IT knowledge is superior to theirs or is it just because you have been mildly inconvenienced? What sort of fucked up attitude is that?
Anyone who does anything to make it hard for the usual crew of greedy war mongering assholes who own, run, finance the international money-go-around is doing all of us a favour.
So what if you can't get into yer server for a while, there are plenty of other circuses out there, all lined up to distract us from the hellish handbasket we're living in.
It isn't worth the time and resources to point out exactly why the stupid capitalist model we've been landed with cannot possibly survive much longer - none of you would listen & it would be seriously OT, suffice to point out the hypocrisy of profiting from hacking n cracking while rabidly criticising others whose hacks are mildly inconvenient.
The superstitious god botherers have one thing, just one, correct, moral relativity, that weasel way of picking out the good bits and leaving what baby doesn't like, which has been enabled by the cult of the individual will be what brings humanity undone.

So why don't you tell us what have we gained from these attacks? What's that favor that they did to us? I am not affected by any of them so far (so I have no reason to be angry at them), and yet I don't feel that lulzsek has done *anything* good for me.

You're comparing file sharer's to childish hackers? Also, how am i benefiting from this idiotic behavior? If you don't like capitalism, feel free to move to North Korea. Everybody is equal there. I hear their grass and dirt are quite tasty. You'll feel right at home.

Eve Online announcement:
Quote: | A message from our COO.
At 17:00 UTC today, CCP became aware of a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) against the EVE Online cluster and web servers.
Our policy in such cases is to mobilize a taskforce of internal and external experts to evaluate the situation. At 17:55 UTC, that group concluded that our best course of action was to go completely offline while an exhaustive scan of our entire infrastructure was executed.
While some may feel that such a drastic reaction was not warranted, it is always our approach to err on the side of caution in order to ensure the best possible service for our players and the security of their personal, billing and account information.
We understand the effect this disruption has had for our players and apologize for not having been able to explain fully to the community what was going on. In these cases it can often be counterproductive to containment to give out information while we are in the process of evaluating the scope of any potential problem.
Our taskforce concluded at 22:05 that neither the game servers nor the CCP infrastructure had been breached. Further, we can also confirm that no personal details such as users’ credentials or credit card numbers were exposed through this incident.
The servers were brought back online at 23:00 and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Again, we sincerely apologize for this disruption.
Regards,
Jón Hörðdal
Chief Operating Officer
UPDATE: Shortly after service was restored to the EVE Online Tranquility server, the CCP Security Task force became aware of ongoing traffic flooding which prompted them to take the server offline. At 00:30 UTC, Tranquility was brought online again and is being closely monitored. Please be advised that we are prepared to take the server offline again if warranted. We thank you again for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience and sincerely thank you for your continued patience. |

In some sense all this is good cause in this age where everything goes on online security needs to tighten up. But I don't see how this is PC games related at all.
Asus, B550, 3700X, 3060, 32GB.

When you'll have to login with your real id to browse the net to "better protect everyone", it won't be good.

That was the case when PSN was taken down.
Now they're not doing us any favors, at all. I guess bankrobbers are doing us favors as well, showing us how unsecure the banks we entrust our money to really are?
These people deserve jail, nothing less.
