I cant play it anymore...I gave it a good run, i really did...
but after the 40th "stop here, you cant go forward, you must wait for creatures to show up, kill them and wait for the ones you kill that conveniently unblocks the way to go by falling on something, knocking over something, or blasting through the door" i cant take it anymore. seems like one was every damn 5 minutes...

nothing ruined it for me other than that "we need to make the map last longer, toss in random fights they must wait for to finish to proceed"

I had hoped that this Duke would have opened the way for some new "No nonsense shooters with comedy" like a new Blood, Shadow Warrior & Redneck Rampage. Sadly that won't happen since the majority of gamers and Journalists hate this Duke game. Sad

Yeah, but I really miss Caleb from Blood and the 2 hill billys from Redneck Rampage, btw. the Redneck soundtrack was awesome, still got the original cd Very Happy

This was such a waste of time, it was mediocre at best.
The "comedy" was retarded, the references to other games were bad, the graphics were mediocre and the plot was recycled.
Yeah, for anyone who actually waited for this PoS for 12 years, HAHA!

Those games you mentioned are all classics, but I have a feeling that they belong in an era that has passed. They don't have alot going for them except nostalgia, and remaking them would only serve to remind us of a time that has gone by.

Of course DNF makes a horrible case for these kind of remakes and that is kinda unfair, considering the development history, which straight out doomed the game long before it came out.

This is all a conspiracy if you ask me. This game was prolly worked on the past two years then released. This is a horrible game, the interactivity is low, and thats what I was looking forward too the most.

Having an interactive environment. This game reminds me of fucking halo.

Dont know what you guys expected? it's been kind of an industry in joke for god knows how long, and when it gets finally released it's now become cliched with the plot, mechanics, gameplay etc it's almost as if they wanted to make it terrible/cheesey on purpose, therein lies the joke..

from what I have played so far It's a no nonsense shooter with alot of fun ideas (not all of them great but hey you cant win em all) and a couple of bad design choices which is often enivetible with cross platform titles and todays gameplay design. I bet if it bought back health packs it wouldn't have gotten such a bad rap lol Wink

Quote:
When the humor isn't bad it's outright revolting. Remember the kidnapped women in the second episode of Duke 3D? They're back, but this time they scream in a combination of pain and ecstasy as they're raped and impregnated. Two of them -- who had given Duke oral sex earlier in the game -- beg him not to dump them and promise to "lose the pregnancy weight." The player can then choose to kill them on the spot or watch them scream as they suffer a painful death -- exploding with their alien babies. Throughout the rest of the level, Duke encounters women in a similar state and is offered the same terrible choice: kill them on the spot or face the alien spawn. Dispatching the woman prompts Duke to quip, "They're not human anymore."

DNF is a game not even the most maladjusted 13-year-old could love. Most adults will roll their eyes (or perhaps sneer in disgust) at the game's attempts at humor, and it reeks of the developers trying too hard, something that as every teenager will tell you, is totally uncool bro.

Review score: F as in 0/10

Fucking journos are disgusted lol wut because the script isn't on par with the "Am3rica Fuck Yeah!" script of CoD

"The Redner Group" PR firm working for 2K will "review" the reviews and decide which journos will get review copies in the future.

jesus christ it isn't half as bad as some reviewers make it

gamespot gave it 3.5, the humor isn't bad at all, sure it's sometimes hit or miss but it's not overdriven

Wierd, I'm at the part where you get enlarged... and while this game is no GOTY I'm actually finding it way more fun than Crysis 2 and Far Cry 2 (2 games I got so bored with I couldnt bear to finish). I'd give Duke a 6.9 or 7/10 so far.

Far Cry 2 was fun in bursts, like playing 1-2 missions then taking a break for a few days. Any longer than that and the repetitive driving/missions started to make me sleepy. I liked how it had a hybrid system of medkit and regen for health instead of going full-regen like other games. The different healing animations were a nice touch. Too bad character selection and mission/buddy selection had no real impact on the outcome of anything.

On topic: I think I'm near the end of this game, and it's been a struggle the whole way. Not in terms of difficulty, but just to get myself to play it. I'm just doing it for Duke. Finish it. Feel content that this chapter of gaming history is finished, and move on.

Now that's more like it, I wish more games would get treated fairly because most games doesn't deserve more then 70 to 80, but we all know how the Assholes AKA Socalled Journalists, likes to throw 90+ around all the time Rolling Eyes

Having played a bit more I finally found something that I missed in most of the FPS games recently: the (so called) puzzles.

And I wonder how much they're contributing to the bad grades the game has been getting so far, wouldn't surprise me if some of the POS game journos out there were stuck at some point and didn't like the lack of hand holding...

It wasn't bad. But it was repetitive as hell.
Also, story near the end was lame (everybody killing everybody).

Yeah, way too many people expected simple brainless shooter from DNF, and it really isn't just that. I guess that 3D Realms, after seeing Half-Life 1/2, wanted to do something more like that. With variable gameplay, including puzzles, driving and stuff.
