Maybe they shouldn't have released a console version at all. Should've fixed up the PC version, polished it, whatever. Released it and then make console ports.
Of course, 2K wouldn't agree to let them finish it then, if there was no console version.
Hence why once they signed the contract, Piranha Games was contacted to make the console ports and multiplayer.

Well it's at least partially true that some of the delay was due to the console version lagging behind, plus MP related improvements.
Game itself (As linked to by Consolitis earlier.) was nearly finished in mid 2009 or so and readied for a early 2010 release (Final polishing and testing.) but with 3D Realms running out of time and money things got a bit hampered.
(Tryptech via some of the 3D Realms employees finalizing the game and then the Gearbox license with some art rework and the console edition stuff.)
Most of the assets are from the 2006 or 2007 build and the current branch of the game is mostly from 2008 (All sorts of scrapped content, levels and the like as seen in those extras screens, trailers and concept art upon completing the game.)
It works but it feels dated and it's evident it got a bit rushed though in their favor it's pretty bug free and well optimized at least.
(I enjoyed it but it's not something you'd replay that often aside from perhaps doing a Insane/Damn I'm Good difficulty level playtrough once unlocked and getting all ego boost items or other secrets.)
The mere fact that they waited with PC version until console port is done, shows that they had no faith in the game.
If they thought that game was really good, it would be ok to have port later, but if not, you do want all versions released at same time to boost sales.
P.S.
Personally, I like DNF. It's rough on the edges, but Duke personality moves it forward. If it had some unknown protagonist, with no flavour, my opinion would be much worse.

The obviously knew it was subpar, but I don't follow your logic.
A good game will sell better on 3 platforms.
A bad game will sell better on 3 platforms.
So, what's the difference?
BTW the sales numbers must be laughable.
It's not in the top 10 best selling games of the week for Steam.. freaking Fable III, that is a 1 month old port of a 6 months old console game, and is not even exclusive to Steam is in the top 10, but DNF is not!!!
I expect drastic price drops for all 3 versions pretty soon

About the same here, manages to display one loading tip for just a short while (That X360 video had several of those cycling trough due to the long loading times on that platform.)
Initial load is a bit longer but the following levels load within seconds.
Ok...I'm having fun from time to time, but if this wasn't a Duke Nukem game, i'd say it was total shit. The humor is hit and miss and Duke is more of a asshole than a badass. Some levels are ok, while others are total crap, my eyes hurt whenever i turn on "duke vision" and the driving is pure torture. Also the shooting itself isn't particularly satisfying... except maybe the shotgun.
I'll try to play more, but for now i'm struggling.
Can't believe people can be arsed to spend so much time on something like that.
I just wrote "FAG" with an arrow pointed at the alien. S:
You've spent too much time with the drawing board dude. Since I'm so busy with my awesome real life, I just ignored the board completely so I had time to get drunk at a bar with my "friends" and start talking pointless shit. Real Life roxx! Fucking Nerds!
Duke Nukem Forever has topped the UK all-formats chart and sold a meaty majority on Xbox 360. Xbox 360 dominated a fat 56 per cent of the sales pie; PS3 claimed only 30 per cent. PC took 14 per cent, but remember that digitally distributed copies (i.e. those bought on Steam, Get Games and elsewhere), aren't counted.

Preorders and good marketing campaign means good sale on all 3 platforms, in first week, regardless of quality.
If game is bad and released on single platform, other ports, if done later, will suffer, or even not be profitable to do at all.
You are right. And you are wrong as well.
On EU Steam DNF is absent from the top sellers list.
On US Steam DNF is #1.
Apologies for checking my region's Steam listing only.
