Well, depends if you like the Gothic (1-2-3) type of games, where progress isn't the fastest, exploration is very important, monsters can be deadly, and the world is alive and reactive.

Risen gets better and better right up until the last 15-20% of the game, where it got rushed, and where it became closed, but until then it's a really good open world experience on par with G2 imho.

honestly guys, how are you not bored of this game? You have basically 9 activables per class, and only four classes. That's very shallow ... am I missing something here?

Well I end up using the same skills in every hack and slash I can remember. I didnt used more than 9 skills in Diablo 2, Titan Quest or Torchlight in one playthrough for example... and I like all of them.
Im not saying that this is the best system ever, not even a good one, but its not a big problem for me. I enjoy the story and the gameplay so far, so thats why Im still playing it. And Im still upgrading the skills/character so its not like you play for an hour and you have everything maxed out.

But what problems do you have installing the game ?

1. Mount .iso
2. If you have autoplay/autorun enabled, steambackup.exe will launch automatically. Otherwise, launch it manually.
3. After installation, copy everything from Crack dir on .iso to the game dir.
4. Also, you may install everything in resources\redist folder on .iso

Did anyone find out how to fix the UI being like pushed upwards when you put 16:10 support to True in the .ini file? It looks prettier without black bars, but the health bar and all that is almost in the middle of the darn screen.

Try running the steambackup.exe as administrator. Right click the file to do that.
I had the same problem. It installed an after it was done there was nothing in the directory. Then I tried what I said and it worked.

Unfortunately Risen was really only good for the first 2 chapters or so. The rest just become a long, tedious dungeon crawl fighting some lizard things. I'm hoping Risen 2 doesn't falter the same way, because first half of Risen was one of the most enjoyable games I've played in recent years. It was pretty much Gothic 3 without the terrible game ruining bugs.

On topic, really disappointed with this (DS3) game. Not quite sure what to think about Obsidian anymore. Really heading down the wrong path imo... oh well, at least we got Alpha Protocol out of them before this.

PoE looks very good! Didn't know about it until now. Randomized areas, lots of loot & visceral combat - all what I want. Thanks for mentioning it. Will try DSIII soon but only expecting an average-ish game.

Gotta say the game is pretty fun.

I still prefer the original as this one feels alot more confined, but it's definitely enjoyable and worth a play.

TQ rocked though, because you could combine the trees however you wanted, and create unique builds that would play vastly different from one another.

Here, every Anjali plays the same. Whether I put points into more healing or chance to stun instead doesn't really change the gameplay at all. And when I look at the other chars, they all share a lot of skills.

I got through a few hours of it, but the controls are simply beyond awful, even with a controller. It's nice that Obsidian put a lot of lore and back-story in, but it's simply not worth struggling against the shitty control system. Also, whoever was behind the mouse and keyboard implementation in this title - shoot yourself in the fucking face - twice for good measure! Smile

Maybe they are if you are used to controllers. I never liked controllers, no matter how much I used them. The PS3 one makes my fingers cramp, while the XBOX360 one is more comfortable, but both are absolute shit when it comes to precision of any sort. A mouse has always felt like an extension of my hand. Thumbsticks...no thank you. Ugh.

Guess I'll grin and bear it...nothing else to play. Sad

Why would you need precision in such a game?

I'm beginning to like it. Give it a few hours I'd say. At first glance the game seems very simplistic and sterile, but it really opens up later on. It has a lot of background info and some exploration. I really like the skills, it looks good and they're pretty cool. The inventory is shit though, as is the camera. One mode is too far, the other too close. It pisses me off. If you like action RPG, this is definitely a must try. It's a very lazy port, it screams CONSOLE!!! from every orifice and it has some shitty design decisons, but overall it's a very entertaining and fun game.

Can anyone explain how empowering works? I hold right trigger, but then the skills are greyed out.

@Immunity

The enemies have that target circle below them, you basically just need to rotate your character and keep hitting the attack awesome button (and occasionally special attack or rolling over), it's not like you have to point exactly on enemy like in DS1/2...

Well, i am playing as that mage dude and he has an AOE attack that strikes exactly where the mouse pointer is when you press the button. Numerous times i forgot about it and wasted my focus. I don't know how it works with the gamepad.

From the top of my head with Katarina:

Left Trigger + square, triangle or circle = Buffs
Right Trigger + square, triangle or circle = offensive skills, pets, etc

To "empower" your abilities (or even standard attack with A button) simply hold the right-trigger and then launch your special with X/Y/B or standard attack A. You can even empower your other abilities by holding right-trigger (right-trigger is ALWAYS empower) and left-trigger, to select the next array of abilities.

The game isn't that bad, kind of pleasant but 11h00 to complete every quests is kind of meh.

I remember Neverwinter Nights (the first one cause they are kind of the same experience except for the controls of course) and it was 30+ hours of gameplay.

I played with Katarina, clearly the most enjoyable character, heavy dps + full ranged.
Every annoying enemy in this game is melee heavy, I tried for 5 hours Lucas and when I confronted

I just deleted my save game and started over with Katarina.

Another aspect of the game that is annoying: not every playable character got the same background depth. The main character is clearly the archon girl, then the two Montbaron children and then, far away from them, the mage.

The mage is just a nobody in this game.

When you use a skill, you gain mastery for it. You need full mastery bar before being able to use empowered version.
