Well with a little tweak the two weapon limit worked better for my secondary playtrough (Or rather I'm doing chapter after chapter to keep that ego bar and similar but now on Insane/Damn I'm Good difficulty finding all ego items and secrets - seems I missed a major one in Fork come to think of it.)
Devastator in one slot and the RPG in another and on with infinite ammo.
I like this game. It is simple, funny and packed with old style action. For something to pass the time, this game is fine considering I didn't have any expectations at all after 12 years.
Underground part 2 level is pitch black and no dukevision anymore
Seems like it is fucked up in the last.dcp file by the razor crack, putting the razor crack back doesn't help anymore.
Got it working, I took the last.dcp file I had before switching to the skidrow crack, put back the razor crack and took my last.sav file from the skidrow storage folder and dukevision is working again

Yep, that's what I did today, I wasn't too far into the game anyway. Ego increases are working and sticking between play sessions, difficulty stays on Hard no matter I quit the session. Now I'm enjoying the game even more.
Well it's still better than black ops! *which has "proper" (as proper as a treyarch game could be ) shooting mechanics*

Yeah talking about a game with no weapon feel at all, that crap was like playing with NERF guns. Blasting a pig cop 10 meters away with a shotgun is much more satisfying

Most of the assets must have remained the same 3DRealms were using in 2009, I remember someone involved with the production said that Gearbox's most notable contributions were 1) redesigning Duke, and 2) help finishing the work on the twins.

Finally beat it and took a look at that timeline. How do people like this function in the real world and actually get paid? Honestly. How can you spend ALL THAT FUCKING TIME and have so little to show for it? It just boggles the mind.
I think that the game development process is just mired in useless shit in general. No other industry works at such a slow pace with so little innovation to show for it.
Having said that, if I were an employer for any sort of company (game development or otherwise), and someone were to come in with DNF on their resume, the interview would be over before it started.

You guys are aware that Gearbox is owning the brand now, are you? I don't think that DNF was the last we see from the Duke. It's even possible that Gearbox's Duke game will actually be good since they know how to make decent FPS titles (BiA,OpFor..)
its not hard to make a good duke game. just remove the weapon carry limit, make sure theres shitloads of ammo scattered around the levels, remove any kind of zoom/iron sight aiming, add lots of topless chicks, spam loads of enemies, have set-piece large boss fights, add plenty of interactive stupid shit to dick around with and throw in some one-liners, swear words and popculture references.. maybe a couple of memes too, and you're set.
they honestly dont have to spend any time thinking about silly gameplay mechanics to throw in or a clever story or puzzles or any of that shit... just look back to the original dn3d for inspiration and make a simple crazy ass shooter.
