What's the difference between FO3 and NV? i finished 3 some months ago, took me 115 hours without playing any dlcs. it was fantastic ride, but by the time i got to the end i grow tired form it and rushed the final hours.
I'm thinking to start NV now, is it better? does the combat feels better?
Also should i play FO3 dlcs? i did play Broken Steel, do the other dlcs worth it?
Thanks
For me, NV was what FO3 should've been. It's closest to the original games in terms of atmosphere, has a better map and characters and generally more interesting stuff to do.
I admit I never completed FO3, but somehow I couldn't stop playing NV.
Exact opposite for me. I played FO3 twice. Never finished NV despite trying multiple times. Personally, I liked the atmosphere of FO3 better.
This was my experience as well. The FO3 world, story and atmosphere feel more like there's some thought and purpose to them, whereas NV is more random.
I used to say FO3 had the better world and better atmosphere. FONV was the better RPG. Recently I played FONV again and it was an absolute blast. It was a game with a lot of detail put into the setting, the world, and characters, etc. Every time I play I still find something new. That I think is one of biggest sign of a great game. Then I jump into FO3, and I lost interest almost instantly. Mainly because I know I can't impact FO3's world as much as I can in FONV, and of course FONV was an iteration of FO3, and the mods are also better.
My opinion haven't changed, I still find FO3's "level" design better. Never in FONV would I stop and look around the environment in awe. I had those moments in FO3. But that's it, everything else I think FONV did it better, including mods.
Its kind of like KoTOR to me. I love KoTOR 2, don't really care for KoTOR 1.
After an entire day modding and getting ready for my latest NV play through it was time to put the piece de résistance on the cake - I wanted to try an ENB. Little did I know what was to follow was going to be an excercise of utmost frustration and utter futility...
Three and a half hours later I've solidly concluded that getting Fallout: New Vegas + New Vegas Script Extender (required for mods) + New Vegas 4GB (required to not crash every 3 fucking minutes if you have any texture mods installed) is a fucking goddamned impossibility - largely do to the jury rigged amateurish fuck wit way in which all this ENB shit is handled.
I've tried the wrappers (that crashes it while it's loading), I've tried the injector (that does fuck all and is never detected by FNV4GB.exe - despite being copied into the exes folder created specifically by FNV4GB, and yes, the injector executable was running).
Long story short..I'm tired of all this shit and don't even feel like playing it anymore - and fuck Bethesda (and yes, it's Bethesda's fault, not Obsidian's) for passing off all the hard work that should have been THEIR responsibility, to modders, in order for their game to not be a consolized shit-fest!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I don't know if it will work for you because this game is a riddle when it comes to incompatibilities, but I've been using the Apex ENB with the 0.249 .dll wrapper (not injector), and it seems to be working with the 4GB mod ( FNV4GB 1.6 ) . Scripts are ok too.
ApexENB
These all go into 'exes' folder along with the backup FalloutNV.exe, since the new executable is the fnv4gb.exe, but you already know that. Hope it can work, otherwise..game over men. :<
Good to hear your experiences because after modding Skyrim recently and seeing lots of crashes, I knew that FNV would be even touchier since I'm getting ready to mod it too.

Haha yeah, unfortunately when it comes to ye ol' Gamebryo, issues are always a given. Even with all the fixes and supposedly clean installations without conflicts, the game(s) can still crash from time to time. Cross your fingers, and hope for the best

Not so, use mod organizer and learn to bash patch and merge patch.

I eventually DID get that ENB running using the wrapper version, however it tanked my frame-rate to a solid 45 so I gave up on it as I simply couldn't be assed to trawl through 300 lines of .ini just because the creator decided that 16xAA was an absolute necessity at 1920x1080 res and up!
Anyway, it's all irrelevant, as about 20 minutes in I started to get incessant CTD's when loading interior cells. It was either disable and reboot the 25 or so mods I had, or toss it in the bin. In the bin it went.
I never had this much trouble out of Skyrim. I used Nexus Mod Manager, made sure archive invalidation was on, and BOSS to sort load order, and everything simply just worked.

Even in Skyrim I ended up deleting all mods and just install Unofficial Patches and SkyUI. While it looks technically worse than modded Skyrim, at least graphics style is consistent, game is stable and the time I would spend modding I'd actually spent playing.
Bull, I consider the game unplayable without all my 119 mods as each and every one serves a purpose
First time sure, but once you get used to some of the fantastic mods out there you can't go back, some of the mods are legendary and a lot of them do a better job then the original game.
All of their games have the best mods in the business, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout, they make the engine and the tools and the modding community creates the game as it should be imo
@Interinactive I actually went through the most popular/downloaded mods on nexus and selected those that I thought would improve the game based on my experience in game. I never finished it, but I put considerable amount of time into the game so I had an idea what I would enjoy.
However despite of amount of great tools that help the process (Mod Organizer, BOSS, Wrye bash, tes4edit) I hated fiddling with the mods. I know there are outstanding mods out there, but I rather play close to vanilla than modded game and then figuring out when something goes wrong, especially if problem start occurring well into new playthrough.

If it's too overwhelming and you're afraid of possible crashes, you could just use a "safe" approach and install only a few essential selected mods that are 100% compatible with each other without needing to use external tools, which still gives you a better result than vanilla. Sometimes it's really easy to go overboard and install too much similar stuff, browsing Nexus is like a drug.
I think New Vegas is enough of a favorite around here that a big new mod counts as news -- especially when it's one that Christopher Avellone has given his seal of approval. Hereisthecity reports:
Christopher Means set out to initially create a mod for the game that was just going to be a single town in his native Texas.
When Means attended GDC in Austin he met Chris Avellone, one of the designers for Fallout: New Vegas, and pitched his mod idea to the developer. Avellone was taken by the idea and convinced Means to broaden the project's scope, and even helped him recruit more Fallout community members to work on the mod.
Now the mod is looking more like a fully-fledged game project...
Most amazingly of all, this is an indie game project that does not appear to be asking for your money ahead of time.
Been replaying this with all the major overhaul mods. JSawyer, FOOK and Project Nevada.
Theres a weird kind of satisfaction when you walk into a room and leave nothing but death and carnage behind.
