Ruin Dungeon Siege? Gas Powered Games beat them to the punch there about 9 years ago. Obsidian had the easiest job in the world--making a game that was better than DS 1 or 2--and yet they still appear to have failed at even that simple task.

Nice, not only can you not remap the keys in the game, you can't even use AutoHotKey to do it. WASD still controls camera/movement even when I load an ESDF script.

Better than DS2 ?!? To be honest, I think DS2 was one of the best Action RPGs at the time it came out. I loved it so much, you should not compare it with DS1, which was crap in my opinion - I did not even finish it.
For a simple hack&slay DS2 offered pretty much good features, even character-related special quests (anybody remembering the "mushroom circles" quest ?), lots of secrets (the "arena"?) and of course a really good and balanced item selection with uniques and sets. Due to all the secrets, sidequests and hidden stuff it felt almost like non-linear "real" RPG. I really enjoyed DS2. The next action RPG I enjoyed that much was Titan Quest.
The only minor problems with DS2 were that you had to solve it two times before you could play it on hardest difficulty with all the characters in your party. Most gamers did not have the patience to do that - but it was most fun. The second problem was that even on hardest difficulty DS2 was too easy.
But nevertheless, in case you havent played it I even recommend trying out Dungeon Siege II today (if you bear the dated graphics).
But I will check out DS3, too - even if only to remember how good DS2 was, compared to it...
regards

I was able to kill the black bars in the user config file, just mess with these until it works or the game explodes. However, the hud stayed in the same place. Not sure about that yet.

Worth a leech... ONLY if you have a gamepad. It plays like Marvel Superheroes games basically.. except better.
It really needs a high res texture mod though. The gfx are fine if you are sitting on your couch playing on a console, but they can be awful in some spots. Lighting and shadows are decent at least.

My thoughts exactly. Witcher 2 inventory was even worse and that was a PC game (supposedly). The game works well enough, once you plug a gamepad.
I'm Also playing with Katarina and having a blast with some hard and fun battles, The haunted mansion is very well done. I'm a sucker for dungeon crawling so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm using a PS3 gamepad without problems. Just make sure you choose xbox360 emulator with motionjoy.

Is the camera bug happening in the full version as well?
It was damn annoying, walk 5 meters, camera spins like crazy, press escape and wait for it to snap back to position, resume, rinse and repeat.

Weird. Asked someplace else, said it's because of the shitty performance, but that seems stupid, I'm running this on a 2500k with 8 gigs and 6870.

So this pile of shit got cracked? Serves them well! I'm probably not going to even download this until I get amazingly bored, which will be like, uhm... next year?! There are far too many games better than this out there to look for so I have no reason to try it this year. Screw you Obsidian and screw you Square Enix!
Also, I should stop reading this thread since there are so many heathens around here that throw rocks at the previous games.

After playing the full version a little bit, I have to say, the game is tolerable when played with a 360 pad. The writing seems ok as well, despite a few too many references to "Jeyne Kessinder".
A 7/10 game for me, its no Diablo II but I will probably play it through to the end.

Tried the game, but as far as the RPG part goes, it's very weak. Nine skills in total? What a laugh right there.

Just when you see that it's compared to the likes of Diablo you know that this shit is not Dungeon Siege . Also, I don't want to play this with a proper gamepad, let alone the idea of playing with a crapbox gamepad, I want proper keyboard + mouse support in a Dungeon Siege game. If they don't want to do that, they can go fuck themselves, I won't even pirate this shit. Oh look, yet another reason why it's not a Dungeon Siege game.
Raging much? You bet I am, they fucked yet another franchise that I loved.
