Immersion.
Most current day "western" games have lost immersion for me.
Look at most eastern European games and immersion is right there back in your face.
This isn't just a point for FPS games but ALL games (maybe even EVERYTHING) in general.
How to create immersion ?

yea but Penumbra is alot about puzzle solving less about fighting if i know well and i would like to see this stuff in more fast action based fps's games. |
Check out Zombie Mod for Counter Strike: Source. It has an excellent blocking mechanic.

And in the end both of the genres suffer, because one of them turn out lame. Like shooting in Mass Effect. Ofc it depends on the developer, but I'd like to stay away from the rpg stuff. Its dangerous. I'd like first person shooters to stay pure.

Non-linear diverse levels with some puzzles
Great Story without cheesy chars
No QTE's, no finishing moves, no regen, no cover.

lol this guy is probably in game design school or applying for a game designer job somewhere and need ideas. I got to say I don't quite know what I want in a shooter, but we all agree we need something different than the usual crap. I have disagree with some ideas here though.
A post-apocalyptic world (a la fallout3/rage) kinda suck, it's gray/brown everywhere. You only see destroyed brick walls, rusted pipes, cement cellar. Sucks. I don't care about the settings, but I want it to be colorful. I also think it's impossible to merge the sandbox/open world/rpg style and the great story/physics/events style in a good way, so you can't really ask for this. Open-world sand box game tend to become so repetitive it's boring. I kinda like the survival concept, but let's say you explored the world, picked everything you found useful, barricaded yourself in a safe spot then what? You just stay there and defend? You will get bored of seeing the same spot.

Also I don't really need ideas, but I wanna know what do people want to play. I don't want to develop unpopular product that no one plays, but I also don't want to have anything to do with "derp cinematic experiences".

You mean in between all the bugs? Because for me, the hilarious amounts of bugs and general lack of polish in eastern European games are the major immersion killers for me. Overshooting is a double-edged sword; on one hand, if you aim low, the product is shit; aim too high however, and you get a game full of bugs that succeed in very little. Now, some might be able to turn their brain of and fanboyingly state "that's acceptable for such an ambitious title" but I cannot.

Meh, I'll happily take a STALKER SOC v1.0 over a Modern Derpfare 2 v1.647 each and every time.

Well, I'm not a fan of traditional FPS - so I would naturally lean towards my favorite genres here. I'm a huge fan of games like System Shock, Bloodlines, and Deus Ex.
So, that's the kind of thing I want from my shooter. Above all, I want exploration.
If we're talking multiplayer - I want something persistent, much like what they've tried to do with modern shooters like MW and BFBC. I just want a lot more. More RPG aspects and customization - and I'd love a more campaign-like structure, so battles have more meaning.

OK you don't want it too complex. Like the newer games. So I'll make it even easier for you!
You know how the 2001 version of Duke Nukem Forever looked like, right? Make that! Make it JUST like that game looks. Should be easier to model the figures and levels right?

How much knowledge do you have regarding game development? You do realize that you sound just like any another kid with "awesome" ideas for a game, without providing proof, right?

I have knowledge in mapping, map scripting, sound, I can do shitty music, modelling, [tiled]texturing, menu flash [scaleform gfx], hud, primitive programming, cutscenes. I cannot do rigging/skinning/complex animation and complex programming. For this I'd need to hire someone.
