Ok so I have been playing this on the x360, and here is my mini review (really mini, cos I'm lazy):

It's much better than the demo, by a factor of 10. I will not comment on the graphics because we all know what to expect here - besides, graphics don't make a game.

I was really glad to see plenty of puzzle elements within the first main level - something alot of people were worried about. Furthermore, Duke is as funny as ever. It really does feel like old Duke 3D. The levels / environments are, for the most part, a homage to the old game - and really give you a feel of nostalgia. While the graphics aren't great, the environments are pretty interactable and loads of stuff can be played with just like in the olden days.

I guess the game is pretty linear, but then so was Duke 3D so you can have it every way!

In general, it's a worthy successor and I recommend a good play-through, even if not just to play a little part of gaming history!

Interesting puzzles here and there and better structured levels can at least make the game acceptable, so yeah, good to hear that ;P

A number of stuff is still present though of course changed. Smile
(Hoover Dam for example and that Duke casino.)

Demo presented a lot of info if you opened some of those files though that was linked to earlier.
(Demo is a small part of the first level with that videogame sequence and then a demo version of level 14 if I remember correctly.)

Lol even the 2001 version had working bulletholes on enemies. The violence in DNF right now is glitched so that bulletholes only appear if you shoot enemy neck areas after blowing their heads off.

Shame the 2001 version didn't come out in like 2002/2003. Given the interactivity and graphics it would have easily been one of the most memorable FPS's of all time. As much as i'm about to enjoy the full singleplayer of DNF, it's not going to be a HL like the 2001 DNF could have been.

And yes, I don't know why the fuck Gearbox released the tech demo that is from a build of the game over a year ago. The demo is really rough around the edges compared to the gold build.

What kills the game for me is the 2 weapon limit and regenerating health. Nothing Horrordee said can fix that. Sad

The 2001 version looked really good. Graphics looked really nice for the time, looked bloody and fun as well.

I will give the full version a go when the PC version is released. From what people have said it could be worth a try.

Is there still people who haven't gotten over that yet? It'll be modded anyway on the PC.

They do look good, but one also has to remember that the 2001 version never really exsisted. They basically were working on nothing but the tech demo for E3 and never had an actually playable game at any point.

Firstly,

WTF - who cares about violence / bullet holes? Are you a nut job or something?

Secondly,

IF you really want violence, just use steriods and your fists - they explode.

Gameplay vids from derpbox, judge yourself:

sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
b: the use or language of sarcasm

If they had of released it then you'd have had a few scripted sequences. much of that trailer was from stuff they had made FOR the trailer and didn't exist in any kind of game form.

Yeah but it looked fun in the same way the early HL2 videos looked fun, they were special scenes constructed especially to look fun but in actuality there was no game behind it. So unless you wanted to sit there for hours watching cinematics and badly broken scripts in real time then be thankful. There was no actual game at that time just a polished showreel.

BUT atleast the final release of hl2 lookd and played a lot like what was in those sequences (atleast MOSTLY.... yeah ok there was some fake cool looking 'mock AI' that never eventuated, and a lot of the actual sequences never showed up, but the look and feel didnt change...hopefully you get my point.

the dnf we are getting now looks NOTHING like the original shit they were showing.. doesnt look even remotely as much fun.

From what i've seen on the full retail game it looks equally as fun gameplay wise.

As you may allready know the 'demo' was the tech demo from 3/4 of a year ago. It contains an incredibly small portion of the full game. From what i've seen out of the full game currently on consoles it is quite fun.

Have you been watching the vids of the full game and/or have any experience of the full game yet or is what you are saying based entirely on a demo that many people have confirmed as being not a patch on the final game?

EDIT: OOps missed the part you said you were messing, sorry Smile
