|
 |
There have been rumors that Nintendo may be planning to bring its next generation Wii to the consumer market in the very near future. What we haven't seen, until this point, are any leaks of the new platform. That all changes today with new images surfacing that show the new platform including "Screen Stream" controllers.
The information comes courtesy of neogaf.com and IGN. The images show off the new controller platform with a screen attached to the device. The idea is that the 1080p image can be split into four sections and sent to the users controller. Imagine playing a multiplayer game with four friends, the screens would allow you to only see where your character is in the game and mask it from the others sitting right next to you.
The codename for the next generation platform is "Project Cafe" and could land as early as later this year. If the slides hold true, it seems that Nintendo will be looking to bring the handheld gaming experience a little bit closer to the home console market.
What else Nintendo has in plan for the next generation console still remains to be unearthed. It is reported that the console will likely cost between $350-$400, support 1080p and stereoscopic 3D.
Additionally, IGN has learned that the system will be based on a revamped version of AMD's R700 GPU architecture, not AMD's Fusion technology as previously believed, which will, as previously reported, out perform the PlayStation 3's NVIDIA 7800GTX-based processor. Like the Xbox 360, the system's CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset, but the clocking speeds will be faster. The system will support 1080p output with the potential for stereoscopic 3D as well, though it has not been determined whether that will be a staple feature.
In terms of the design of the console itself, the overall size will be comparable to that of the original Xbox 360 and the system is likely to resemble a modernized version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

Lol, u mad?
The new console looks promising.
The screen on it reminds of the screen on the dreamcast controller.
Your hud was on it. Your shit was on it.
It was a damn good idea and it was used properly.
If this does come out this october. I might pick it up.

Meh, we'll see. The industry is so corrupt at this point who knows if it's good news, or bad.
PC Specs: A Maganavox' Odyssey

I don't know about you but I cannot get excited about the Wii2, every console Nintendo have released after the N64 has been a third party nightmare. The wii harked back to the days of the spectrum were the market was flooded with terrible titles, and some gems inbetween.
When it comes to Nintendo consoles its only Nintendo that ends up supporting it with Triple A titles and in recent years some of these havent been that good.
I rekon I will give the Wii2 a miss or atleast keep an eye on it and see if it picks up.

with the rumors where nintendo is talking to 3rd parties and telling them to make AAA... i think if it's true, then wii2 could be something just as good as n64.

Rockstar are making one of their big titles for Nintendo Café (stream?), and if that game is GTA6 I think many other thirdparty developers will jump right into it. Nintendo has been in a bad circle, but once AAA titles starts to come out that sells I think they'll be on the right path. I heard that they know themself the problems with this and am putting alot of resources on getting other developers.

The specs are good right now, the problem however is that they wont be a year from now when sony and ms introduce their new machines. And that puts nintendo in the exact same spot as they have been in the last years. PS and XB are getting the next gen version and nintendo will get another version with less than impressive gfx.
Problem here is they could do that with the wii because the wii could be offered at a very low price point at its time, but this thing is going to cost a shitload, since the controllers will not go under 150$. Todays controllers are at 40$ but this new one apparently has a camera and touchscreen and even a hardware structure to support games on the go. I mean thats an awesome idea, but you wont shell out another 150 for a second controller to be able to play with your friends.
So my bet is console + 2 Controllers 500-600$ on release which is waaaaay too high for the biggest part of the nintendos fanbase. I would love to be proven wrong but i dont see how they are going to offer it for less, unless they are offering it below production cost, which nintendo never did if memory serves me right.
Long story short, As a gaming fanatic ill buy that thing, but will the casual gamer too?

I expected 1024 MB main memory, other specs seem ok for a Nintendo product I suppose

Very good data so far! If the information regarding the processor from IBM are true, than this wii 2 will have a beast that is basically as fast as hexa core i7's!
Now we need more information regarding the graphics chip. (1GB DDR5 is GREAT news already!)
Last thing I heard was a HD4000 level gfx card. With the correct setup this could be enough for HD gaming in a similar quality as the current generation PCs are only capable of

@Pumpy
It is a 4000-series GPU. The Project Cafe is using an RV770 (codename "Wolf") chip.. though that's pretty broad on exactly which model it is;
Radeon 4730
Radeon 4830
Radeon 4850
Radeon 4870

Its alright Nintendo talking and telling them, but will they?, just look at Gamecube it wasnt a bad console, the specs were good enough, but you didnt see the third party software developers jumping on the bandwagon.
Like I said, I will, reserve judgement untill I see something happening that I like, but I really do have a gut feeling that its going to be the same story.

Wow, how innovative. Another first person shooter.
25gb, means they're bluray, single layer.
EDIT: reading the newspost clarified that bit as well
